Shearwater Resort, owned and operated by the Heiltsuk Nation, is seeking a motivated and experienced Grocery Store Manager to lead the daily operations of our community-focused grocery store in the heart of British Columbia's Great Bear Rainforest.
About the Role
The Grocery Store Manager is responsible for overseeing store operations, purchasing, receiving, inventory control, merchandising, staff supervision, customer service, and financial record keeping. This position also supports operations of the Post Office and works closely with other resort departments to ensure efficient service to residents, guests, and marine travelers.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of grocery store operations and customer service.
- Oversee purchasing, receiving, inventory control, and merchandising.
- Maintain adequate stock levels and coordinate deliveries with suppliers.
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise store staff.
- Ensure accurate cash handling, sales reporting, and record keeping.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shopping environment.
- Oversee Post Office operations and required documentation.
- Build positive relationships with customers, community members, and vendors.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in retail or grocery management.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience with inventory management and POS systems.
- Ability to work independently in a remote community environment.
- Knowledge of purchasing, receiving, and merchandising practices.
- Familiarity with Indigenous cultures and sustainable practices is an asset.
