Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled, dedicated, and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in providing exceptional patient care within a busy ophthalmology practice. This is a clinical role that involves supporting Ophthalmologists with patient examinations and procedures, diagnostic testing, and patient education. Prior experience in ophthalmology or optometry is preferred. The position offers an opportunity to work in a positive, supportive environment focused on collaborative, team-based patient care.
Duties
- Assist Ophthalmologists by accurately and efficiently testing patients' far and near acuity, color vision, pupils (RAPD), obtaining intraocular pressure, performing pachymetry and applying anesthetic and dilating eye drops
- Perform Visual Field testing, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), corneal topography, IOL Master and ultrasound (A-scan, B-scan)
- Follow established protocols to obtain, manage, and document patient information accurately and in a timely manner
- Ensure medical records contain appropriate documentation in accordance with clinic policy
- Provide optimum patient care and education regarding eye care, medications, and clinic procedures in accordance with clinic protocols
- Order supplies, help maintain equipment, and coordinate servicing arrangements when required
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment, adhering to safety and infection control protocols
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient clinic flow and high-quality patient care
- Contribute ideas to continuously improve clinic workflows and the patient experience
- Participate in planning and evaluation activities with the Clinic Manager and Medical Director
- Pursue ongoing professional development to maintain and grow clinical skills and knowledge
- Assist with other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) designation through IJCAHPO is preferred; Candidates with equivalent training or experience or with a background as a foreign-trained physician (IMG) or foreign-trained optometrist are also encouraged to apply
- Strong foundational knowledge of Ophthalmology including tonometry, visual fields, color vision, biometry, and ocular pharmacology
- Experience with electronic medical records systems, familiarity with Accuro and Epic is an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Compassionate and professional demeanor with strong patient care skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Ability to work well within a small, collaborative team

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $21.00-$25.00 per hour
