Overview
We are looking for a compassionate and engaging Instructor to join our NAAC Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) program. This position provides a rewarding opportunity to help prepare future early childhood educators. In this role, you will use your practical childcare experience to teach interactive lessons on topics such as child development, health and safety, and educational play. Your passion for early learning and commitment to supporting students will contribute to creating a positive learning environment that equips graduates for successful careers in childcare.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver effective lectures and interactive workshops covering key subjects in early childhood education, including child growth and development, health and safety procedures, positive guidance strategies, and developmentally appropriate curriculum planning.
- Prepare and maintain course outlines, lesson plans, and instructional resources, ensuring they meet NAAC standards and comply with provincial childcare regulations.
- Support and guide students by advising them on academic development, classroom management skills, and potential career opportunities within the early childhood field.
- Oversee and assess students during hands-on training, practicums, or simulated childcare activities, offering constructive feedback to encourage professional improvement.
- Work collaboratively with faculty members and program coordinators to strengthen curriculum design and incorporate innovative teaching approaches such as play-based learning and observational evaluation methods.
- Evaluate student learning through assignments, examinations, and classroom participation, while keeping detailed and accurate academic records.
- Remain current with developments in early childhood education by participating in professional development programs and industry-related workshops.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, Psychology, or a related discipline. Certification: Valid certification or registration with the provincial College of Early Childhood Educators (or an equivalent regulatory organization) is required.
Experience: At least two years of recent practical experience working as an Early Childhood Assistant, Early Childhood Educator (ECE), or Supervisor in a daycare, nursery, or preschool environment.
Teaching Experience: Demonstrated experience teaching, training, or mentoring adult learners is strongly preferred.
Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of child development theories, health and safety standards, and inclusive learning practices.
Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively engage students from diverse backgrounds.
Curriculum Development: Proven ability to contribute to curriculum materials that are thorough, clear, and accessible.
Professional Development: Dedication to ongoing learning and staying informed about new developments in early childhood education.
Preferred Qualifications (Assets)
- Previous teaching experience in a vocational college or adult education environment.
- Familiarity with current NAAC curriculum standards and accreditation procedures.
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certification
Applicants must also meet the instructor qualification requirements set out in the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005, and be available to teach in a hybrid format (both online and in-person) at the Scarborough campus according to the scheduled timetable.
