Overview
Sunshine Pediatric Therapy is seeking a compassionate, organized, and motivated Therapy Assistant to support our clinicians in delivering high-quality therapy services in a contract position. The Therapy Assistant works under the supervision of licensed therapists (e.g., Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, and/or Physiotherapists) to implement treatment plans, prepare materials, and support client progress.
Responsibilities
- Implement therapy programs designed by supervising therapists.
- Support clients during individual and group therapy sessions.
- Prepare and organize therapy materials and activities.
- Collect data and document client performance during sessions.
- Maintain accurate and timely session notes and records.
- Assist with scheduling, setup, and cleanup of therapy spaces.
- Communicate effectively with therapists regarding client progress.
- Support carryover of therapy goals through home programs (as directed).
- Ensure a safe, respectful, and engaging environment for all clients.
- Adhere to clinic policies, confidentiality, and professional standards.
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in a related field (e.g., Rehabilitation Assistant, Communicative Disorders Assistant, OTA/PTA, Education Assistant, or equivalent)
- Experience working with children, adolescents, or adults in a therapy or educational setting (preferred)
- Tutoring experience (preferred)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively within a team
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Basic computer skills for documentation and scheduling
- Knowledge of therapy approaches and strategies (an asset)
- Current First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Criminal record check (required)
- Must have a reliable vehicle and access to a computer
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting individuals with autism, developmental delays, or neurological conditions
- Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems
- Ability to adapt activities to meet diverse client needs
- Positive, patient, and flexible attitude
