Job Summary
The Driver, Customer Service & Warehouse Associate is a versatile role responsible for the safe and timely transportation of company products, while also providing excellent customer service and assisting with warehouse operations. This position involves vehicle operation, loading/unloading, customer interaction during deliveries, and performing general warehouse duties. This role is a key frontline representative of the company, crucial for both logistics and customer relations.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Driving & Logistics
- Safely operate company vehicles (e.g., refrigerated trucks, vans) in compliance with all traffic laws, MTO regulations, and company policies.
- Transport finished products to customer locations and pick up raw materials from suppliers or cold storage facilities according to pre-determined schedules.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any defects or maintenance needs to the Store Manager and/or Maintenance Manager immediately.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure all necessary documentation (e.g., insurance, registration) is present and current.
- Follow assigned delivery routes efficiently and communicate any delays or issues impacting delivery times to the Store Manager.
- Warehouse & Material Handling
- Accurately load and unload products, verifying items and quantities against delivery manifests or pick lists.
- Ensure all products are handled carefully to prevent damage and are transported under appropriate temperature conditions.
- Secure cargo properly to prevent shifting during transit.
- Assist with general warehouse duties during non-driving periods, which may include organizing stock, performing inventory counts, or cleaning.
- Customer Service & General Support
- Interact with customers in a professional, courteous, and positive manner during all deliveries and pick-ups.
- Obtain necessary signatures or other proof of delivery.
- Collect payments (e.g., C.O.D.s) if required and handle them securely according to company policy.
- Address minor customer inquiries or refer them to the appropriate company personnel.
- Accurately complete delivery logs, mileage records, temperature logs, and other required paperwork.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of professional driving experience, preferably in a route delivery or commercial driving role.
- Experience delivering perishable goods and operating refrigerated vehicles is a strong asset.
- Experience with customer service and warehouse duties is preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Excellent driving skills with a thorough understanding of traffic laws and safe driving practices.
- Ability to safely operate the assigned class of vehicle.
- Good sense of direction and ability to navigate using maps or GPS.
- Interpersonal & Core Competencies:
- Strong customer service orientation with a professional and friendly demeanor.
- High degree of reliability, punctuality, and trustworthiness.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Good communication skills.
- A strong commitment to safety in all aspects of the job.
- Certifications & Licenses Required:
- Valid Ontario Driver's License appropriate for the class of vehicle being operated (e.g., G license, or D license if required for larger trucks).
- A clean and current Driver's Abstract.
- Considered an Asset:
- Air Brake (Z) Endorsement (if applicable to vehicles).
- Defensive Driving course completion.
Working Conditions
- The role involves a mix of being on the road operating a company vehicle, working in warehouse/loading dock environments, and interacting with customers at their locations.
- Exposure to various weather conditions during deliveries and loading/unloading.
- Involves sitting for extended periods while driving.
- Work hours may vary based on delivery schedules and could include early mornings or evenings.
Physical Demands
- The role requires significant physical activity for loading and unloading goods.
- Requires the ability to lift and move heavy items, such as boxes or cases, up to [e.g., 27.22 kg / 60 lbs].
- Involves frequent entering and exiting of a vehicle.
- Requires bending, stooping, and reaching during material handling.
Travel Requirements
- This position is based on local and regional driving routes. No overnight travel is typically required.
