Global Resource Design Inc. (GRDi) is seeking an experienced and motivated Intermediate Electrical Drafter to join our growing Calgary team. This position provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to challenging oil & gas, energy, and industrial projects while working alongside experienced engineers, designers, and other industry professionals.
GRDi supports clients across Western Canada and the United States, with a strong presence in key energy-producing regions including Alberta, West Texas, Colorado, and Wyoming. Our work spans oil and gas production facilities, compressor stations, water handling systems, pipelines, power generation facilities, and other industrial infrastructure projects. This geographic diversity provides employees with exposure to a wide range of project types, clients, and operating environments.
At GRDi, you will work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and contribute to multidisciplinary engineering projects through the preparation and maintenance of high-quality electrical drawings and project documentation. The successful candidate will provide drafting support to electrical engineers and designers while ensuring drawings are accurate, consistent, and completed in accordance with project requirements, applicable standards, and client drafting practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and revise electrical drawings using AutoCAD in accordance with engineering specifications, project requirements, and client drafting standards.
- Provide drafting support to electrical engineers and designers throughout various stages of project execution.
- Develop and maintain electrical drawings and drafting deliverables, including:
- Single-line diagrams
- Area classification drawings
- Equipment layouts
- Grounding layouts
- Lighting layouts
- Cable tray layouts
- Panel schedules
- Control schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- Electric heat trace drawings
- 3D models
- Construction work package drawings
- Update drawings based on engineering and design mark-ups, redlines, field information, and project revisions.
- Prepare drawing packages for internal review, client review, construction, and final issue.
- Incorporate engineering information, vendor data, and design changes into project drawings.
- Ensure drawings comply with applicable drafting standards, company procedures, project requirements, and client preferences.
- Coordinate drawing information with engineers, designers, and other disciplines to ensure consistency across project deliverables.
- Perform drawing checks to identify drafting errors, inconsistencies, and missing information prior to issue.
- Maintain drawing accuracy, formatting, revision control, and document quality throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist with the preparation and assembly of construction work packages and other project documentation.
- Maintain organized electronic drawing files and project documentation in accordance with company and client requirements.
- Support the development and updating of standard drawing details, templates, and drafting practices.
- Complete drafting assignments for moderately complex projects with limited supervision.
- Manage multiple drafting assignments and priorities while meeting established project schedules and deadlines.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company procedures, client requirements, applicable standards, and health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Promote a strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Two-year diploma or equivalent post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Drafting, CAD Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of electrical drafting experience, preferably within the oil & gas, energy, industrial, or related industries.
- Previous experience working within an EPC or EPCM engineering environment is considered an asset.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and CADD-based drafting.
- Experience or training in 3D drafting and modelling is considered an asset.
- Experience preparing and revising electrical drawings, layouts, schematics, and related project documentation.
- Familiarity with electrical terminology, symbols, drawing conventions, and industry drafting practices.
- Ability to interpret engineering sketches, mark-ups, redlines, specifications, and design information.
- Working knowledge of applicable drafting standards and electrical codes is considered an asset.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing accurate and high-quality drawings.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet project deadlines.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced project environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision while also contributing effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Self-motivated with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
