Unit Summary
The West Regional Base Hospital - Centre for Paramedic Education & Research (CPER) serves 9 communities - Brant/Brantford Paramedic Service (BBPS), Dufferin County Paramedic Services (DCPS), Haldimand County Paramedic Services (HCPS), Hamilton Paramedic Service (HPS), Guelph Wellington Paramedic Service (GWPS), Niagara EMS (NEMS), Norfolk County Paramedic Service (NCPS), Region of Waterloo Paramedic Service (RoWPS), Six Nations Paramedic Service (SNPS). Overall, the Base Hospital provides medical oversight, Certification, continuous quality improvement and education to over 2,000 Paramedics. In addition, the Base Hospital works towards advancing research in the field of pre-hospital emergency care.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Regional Quality Manager, the Quality Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating and executing activities and tasks as they relate to quality assurance and improvement to achieve CPER's goals and fulfill the obligations of the Performance Agreement. Specifically, the Quality Specialist will be responsible for quality initiatives that will focus the Education portfolio and measure results of education delivered to Paramedics. This role will also lead investigations, reviews, and requests for clarification and the auditing processes associated with Ambulance Call Reports (ACRs). In addition, the Quality Specialist will analyze data, create queries and reports and interpret data to support the Program's needs and requirements. This role will also involve research initiatives involving Paramedic practice and innovations and in doing so, will collaborate with both internal and external organizations.

Qualifications
1. Graduate of an Advanced Care Paramedic Program or Primary Care Paramedic Program recognized by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
2. Knowledge of the Ambulance Act and its associated Regulations and Standards, and other related legislation related to prehospital emergency care
3. Training in Quality Improvement and Assurance techniques - may include Six Sigma, Lean, National Certified Investigator Training (CLEAR)
4. Knowledge of current privacy legislation and its application in the Regional Program environment
5. Demonstrated strong leadership skills and the ability to build relationships with multiple stakeholders (internal and external)
6. Demonstrated organization, facilitation, problem solving, analytical, critical thinking and project management skills
7. A minimum of 2 years experience in a role using Quality Management Systems and quality improvement and quality assurance principles
8. Experience with formal research and publishing an asset
9. Demonstrated excellence in communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, and the ability to initiate and model positive change
10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office
11. Recognized Academic qualifications in either, Quality Management, Health Management or Project Management would be an asset
