Solution Maintenance Technician – Laboratory

Position overview
Protec Finishing is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Solution Maintenance Technician to support our laboratory and electroplating operations. The successful candidate will analyze and maintain process solutions, complete laboratory testing, document results, calibrate equipment, and help ensure our plating processes meet established quality standards.
Previous electroplating experience is preferred. Education or experience in chemistry, chemical analysis, or a manufacturing laboratory environment is an asset but is not mandatory.
Key responsibilities
- Collect and analyze samples from plating solutions, raw materials, work-in-process products, finished products, de-ionized water, and softened water.
- Perform laboratory tests and calculations using established procedures.
- Record results accurately in reports, checklists, and laboratory logs.
- Identify and report discrepancies in samples, testing, or results.
- Determine whether test results meet specifications, subject to review by the QC Supervisor.
- Monitor and adjust process chemistry as instructed.
- Develop a basic understanding of plating finishes, plating codes, and how chemical conditions affect metal finishes.
- Perform routine calibration, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
- Complete assigned work orders and meet established testing deadlines.
- Support quality, safety, housekeeping, and productivity requirements.
- Report spills and damaged equipment immediately.
- Assist and share technical knowledge with other team members when appropriate.
- Follow all applicable safety procedures, including WHMIS, spill management, chemical handling, lockout/tagout, confined-space requirements, and fall-protection procedures.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment.
Qualifications
- Electroplating or metal-finishing experience is preferred.
- Education or experience in chemistry or chemical analysis is an asset.
- Previous laboratory, quality-control, or manufacturing experience is an asset.
- Ability to understand and follow written testing, calibration, and work instructions.
- Basic mathematical skills and the ability to complete calculations accurately.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain regular attendance.
- Able to work independently while following the direction of the QC Supervisor or Plant Manager.
- Comfortable working in a warm or hot, humid manufacturing environment where chemicals are used.
- Able to work safely while collecting chemical samples and adjusting process chemistry.
- Willing and able to work overtime and weekends when required.

Compensation
- Level 1 – Starting rate: $23.77 per hour
- Level 2 – After 60 regular shifts: $24.24 per hour
- Level 3 – After 180 regular shifts: $25.11 per hour
