University degree and/or college diploma in Therapeutic Recreation with experience in Therapeutic Recreation
Post-Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Recreation with University degree
Membership with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario
Eligibility for Registration with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (R/TRO)
Eligibility for Certification (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist - CTRS) preferred
Minimum 1 – 2 years clinical experience
Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and within a transdisciplinary team
Strong leisure assessment skills
Strong collaborative and team oriented work habits
Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
Ability to be creative and resourceful
Evidence of satisfactory attendance record
An employee’s disciplinary record will be reviewed as part of the assessment of qualifications
Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the centre’s core values and helps patients get their life back
Should be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors
Provide recreation and leisure assessments/interventions based on professional requirements.
Implement and evaluate recreation therapy treatments and programs.
Provide client and family leisure education.
Respond to team/service inquiries to Recreation Therapy.
Provide supervision of students, volunteers and assistants.
Provide back-up support and coverage for recreation programs, including hospital wide events.
Ensure timely and thorough clinical documentation and completion of workload.
Pursue continuous professional development, including participation in Rec. Therapy PSIC.
Participate in clinical evaluation.
Participate in advanced practices.
