The Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineer plays a crucial role in evaluating existing processes and configuring manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability, and develop best practices within the production processes. The main focus of this role is to complete the critical equipment spare parts list and work on maintaining reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, and reducing cost.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assembly, manufacture, maintenance, and commissioning of automation machinery, productions, and production systems.
- Complete the mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic assembly of a parts transfer system in accordance with provided documentation and schematics.
- Ability to work efficiently with input and output connections, sensor and motor wiring, switches, push buttons, and pneumatic solenoids.
- Faultfinding, troubleshooting, and seeking out hardware problems.
- Finding ways to improve different aspects of the production process and control systems, including efficiency or safety issues; make recommendations and implement these efficiencies.
- Using mechanical, computer, and electronic technology to develop solutions to problems.
- Conduct research into the feasibility, design, operation, and performance of mechanical, electrical, telecommunications, control, and computer engineering.
- Conduct simulations and create models of engineering systems.
- Prepare material cost and timing estimates, reports, and design specifications.
- Design electrical and electronic circuits, components, systems and equipment, plants, machines, components, tools, and fixtures.
- Supervise and inspect the installation, modification, testing and operation of mechanical, telecommunication, computer, control, and electronics at organizational facilities.
- Develop maintenance and operating standards for engineering systems.
- Investigate failures of mechanical, electrical, computer, control, or telecommunication products.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum four years of experience in a similar role.
- Proven ability to read, understand, and follow electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics for troubleshooting.
- Proven experience and knowledge in the technologies of mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, information processing, basic electricity, and motor and motion control.
- Proven experience and knowledge in pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical symbology, relay logic and ladder diagram wiring, and program techniques.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Proficient in using operational excellence, and project management tools.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to finding solutions.
- Knowledge of operational best practices and process improvement methodologies.
- Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Excellent computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office suite.
- Demonstrated capability to plan, organize, and execute projects.
- Licensing by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta is an asset.
