Position: EHS Specialist-Canada
Primary Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (In Person, On-Site)
Reports To: Site EHS Manager
Compensation: 95,000 CAD-105,000 CAD, depending on experience + Benefits + Bonus Potential
Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. A more specific salary range for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process. Please note that the compensation details listed reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, benefits, pension contributions or additional incentives.

The EHS Specialist is responsible for implementing and overseeing Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs at their assigned Chemtrade plant(s). These programs include, but are not limited to: environmental, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, product safety, emergency response, loss prevention, process safety, security and medical programs. This individual provides guidance and facilitates a collaborative approach to site management on implementation of EHS programs in order to reduce accidents, injuries, and environmental releases. The EHS Specialist stays current on relevant Environmental, Health and Safety regulations and facilitates site compliance with applicable regulations. The EHS Specialist provides oversight of required training, permitting and reporting, auditing, and recordkeeping. Maintains appropriate safety equipment and general support of the Chemtrade EHS culture. The EHS Specialist performs other tasks as assigned by the EHS Regional Manager or Director of EHS and site manager to support Chemtrade EHS programs
About This Role and About You
Qualifications:

Certificate in occupational health or safety, industrial hygiene, environmental engineering or another relevant field.

High level of computer skills in MS Office software (Word, Excel, Access, & PowerPoint).
Desirable skills:
-
Associate / bachelor’s degree in occupational health or safety, industrial hygiene, environmental engineering or another relevant field.

Experience in Chemical Processing environment
-
Working, or willing to work toward professional and/or industry certifications preferred (e.g. OHST, CSP, CIH, or CHMM).

Elements of Industry-based Emergency Response and Incident Command System

Ability to adapt to changing list of priorities based on needs of the company, regulatory compliance, and management of risk.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Become familiar with Chemtrade Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS) policies and procedures.

Immediately report all EHS incidents (injuries, near misses, releases).

Follow all Chemtrade facility and corporate EHS procedures and practices.
-
Attend and actively participate in facility EHS meetings and forums that will drive employee involvement.

Lead job safety analysis activities.

Implement Chemtrade Environmental, Health Safety & Security (EHS) policies and procedures.

Collect, organize and communicate metrics to track EHS performance.

Provide site EHS leadership through management by example and relationship development.

Provide comprehensive and effective EHS training. Design and implement training to address any gaps identified.

Create opportunities for expanded employee involvement and participation in EHS matters.

Participate in incident investigations and drive EHS action items to completion.

Conduct periodic assessments or inspections of EHS programs to identify and correct deficiencies related to compliance with the EHS policies and procedures.

Inspection and monitoring of the work site, and interface with employees and contractors to ensure compliance to safety standards, identify hazards, and to develop and implement corrective/improvement measures. Review Safe Work Permits, and participate in incident investigation teams, safety audits, design reviews, process safety reviews, project review teams, and/or job task analysis. 70%

Coordinates workplace training and education relating to EHS matters. Ensures safety-related tools, supplies and equipment, including PPE is appropriate and readily available to all workers on site. 15%

Promotes proactive safety participation by all employees and ensures injuries, illnesses, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions are reported and investigated. 10%
