What responsibilities will you have in this role?

Reporting to Manager Environmental Services, the Afternoon Supervisor is responsible for various aspects of the Campus during afternoon and weekends. The incumbent will respond and investigate facilities complaints, issuing work orders and supervising in-house custodial staff, maintenance staff and outside contractors. Verifies building parameters through Building Automation System (BAS) and will bypass fire alarm system when required.

The Afternoon Supervisor will work with external contractors in order to implement the new signage standard at GBC (College wide). Attends meetings with contractors as required. Assist all new and project related sign.

Responds to facility complaints and investigates complaints and issues work orders as required to ensure compliance with legislative and municipal bylaws, College standards and expectations.
Verifies building parameters through Building Automation System (BAS) and will bypass fire alarm system when called upon.
Works with maintenance staff and outside contractors overseeing work performed after hours during afternoon shift.
Supervises the afternoon custodial staff to ensure housekeeping work schedules and duties are performed in a manner consistent with the expectations of the College.
Develops and implements training for afternoon and coaches staff on work performance.
Directs staff in cleaning duties, including recruiting and selecting the housekeeping staff for the afternoon shift.
Inspects facilities, performs cleaning audits and reports on findings on regular basis.
Monitors housekeeping contracts and reports housekeeping deficiencies to Manager, Environmental Services for appropriate response.
Makes recommendations for purchasing and services of Housekeeping maintenance contracts and equipment purchases.
Work with external contractors in order to implement the new signage standard at GBC.
Manages all new and project related sign requests from College community.
Audits classrooms to seating plans. Works with Registrar’s Office and scheduling in order to revise seating capacity for classrooms.
Investigates new seating options to promote interactive learning environments.
Audits whiteboard and coordinates replacement when required. Performs audits of the classroom features for the purpose of scheduling.
Makes recommendations for Housekeeping services for Annual Business Planning and budget requirements.
Monitors monthly budget expenditures for afternoon shift, implements cost saving techniques and efficiencies.
Other related duties as assigned.
What qualifications do you need for this role?

Three year diploma/degree form a recognized post-secondary institution in Facilities Management or Building Operations Systems.
Minimum five years of progressive management experience in a large, operation with multiple public use buildings.
Previous directly related experience managing staff in a unionized environment is preferred.
Knowledge of Building Automation System and Technical knowledge of Building Science is required.
Working knowledge of MS Office programs, including Work, Excel, PowerPoint and Project would be an asset.
Demonstrated understanding of project management concepts and combined with excellent project management skills to resolve project related issues and maintain good working relationships with internal stakeholders and external contract providers.
Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, combined with proven success in delivering projects to deadlines and within budgets.
Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution and remediation skills.
Superior verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Advanced analytical, initiative, problem-solving, interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills are essential.
Multi-tasking and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Demonstrated leadership in delivering excellent service to others as this is key in supporting the success of our students and our College.
Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
Effective ability to interact with others and deal with situations in ways that respect diverse backgrounds, experience and styles.
