About This Role
Today’s Parent is looking for a Deputy Editor to help lead the brand’s next stage of audience growth across social, newsletters, community, and digital editorial. Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief, this is a hands-on editorial role for a highly organized editor and content strategist who understands how to grow audiences.
Working closely with the Editor-in-Chief, the Deputy Editor will support brand development and audience growth through the production of multi-platform content, including written articles, social media, newsletters and video.
You will lead key growth areas of social strategy execution, newsletter development, increase content output, and help shape how stories are packaged and distributed beyond the website. This role is ideal for an content creator who has strong editorial judgement and can execute quickly. You should be comfortable moving between editing, strategy, design, audience thinking, and digital experimentation, while keeping Today’s Parent’s voice, authority, and usefulness at the center of your work.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial Leadership & Content Growth-
Support the Editor-in-Chief in managing editorial calendars; writing, editing, producing digital stories, newsletters and social content

Contribute to planning systems and development of AI workflows that help each story work harder across channels

Collaborate with internal and external partners and contributors

Facilitate expert and community outreach and develop expert-led editorial opportunities
-
Contribute to a culture of experimentation, efficiency, strong editorial judgment, and audience-first digital thinking
-
Support editorial needs and brand alignment across affiliate and branded content and other SJC brands, as required
-
Lead Today’s Parent’s daily social planning and publishing, with particular focus on Instagram and TikTok
-
Build and manage social calendars that align with editorial priorities, seasonal moments, tentpoles, and audience needs
-
Oversee packaging of stories, including captions, framing, rollout timing, and repeat promotion opportunities
-
Collaborate with design, editorial, and audience partners to create strong, platform-appropriate content and campaigns
-
Produce video and audio content and appear on camera

Own weekly newsletter production

Support the development and redesign of Today’s Parent’s existing newsletters and newsletter journeys
-
Help assess and shape opportunities for future newsletter products tied to clear audience needs or sponsorship opportunities

Help build a more strategic community layer around Today’s Parent, including parents, experts, professionals, and other trusted voices

Manage community-facing channels

Build workable systems for gathering quotes, lived experience, and parent perspectives

Help organize community-sourced input so it can meaningfully support reporting, social engagement, and future editorial franchises

Build practical systems that reduce bottlenecks across editing, social, newsletter, and packaging work
-
Monitor performance signals and use data to inform packaging, distribution, and editorial decisions
-
Journalism or a related degree or experience
-
Five or more years of experience in digital editorial, audience development and social strategy
-
Strong writing and editing skills
-
Experience managing freelancers, creators, or junior editorial staff
-
Proven experience strategizing, managing or growing social channels for a media brand, with strong instincts for Instagram and TikTok
-
Experience building or supporting newsletter strategy, production, or growth
-
Strong understanding of digital packaging, story promotion, and multi-platform publishing
-
Excellent organizational skills and comfort managing multiple projects at once
-
Experience using analytics and performance signals to guide content and packaging decisions
-
Experience using CMS, newsletter, social scheduling, and editorial workflow tools
-
Interest in using AI tools and workflow systems to improve editorial efficiency and output

Familiarity with SEO and search-driven content strategy
-
Ability to move easily between strategic thinking and day-to-day execution

Enthusiastically stays on top of culture, news and parenting trends

Portfolio of content representative of skillsets
-
Passion for writing and consuming parenting, lifestyle, service, or family-focused content
-
Experience with community management or audience engagement programs
-
Experience building repeatable editorial workflows or operating systems

Comfort working across editorial, social, and newsletter products rather than in a single channel silo
