Your Team:
Join Flair’s Flight Dispatch team, where operational leadership and real-time decision-making support safe, reliable, and efficient flight operations across the network. Reporting to the Vice President, Flight Operations, the Director, Dispatch is responsible for the overall leadership and oversight of the Flight Dispatch function, ensuring operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
The Director, Dispatch provides strategic and operational leadership to the team, ensuring the appropriate staffing, training, tools, processes, and resources are in place to support the operation. The role drives performance and continuous improvement, with a focus on operational efficiency, cost management, on-time performance, and network reliability. Working closely with operational teams across the organization, the Director supports effective decision-making and coordination across the network.
This role is based on-site at our Toronto, ON (YYZ) office.
A Day in the Life:

Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Flight Dispatch department, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant dispatch operations in accordance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring Flight Dispatch personnel adhere to established safety policies, reporting requirements, and Safety Management System (SMS) processes.

Oversee the development, publication, and ongoing maintenance of Flight Dispatch manuals, policies, procedures, bulletins, and departmental communications to ensure operational and regulatory requirements remain current.

Provide leadership and performance oversight for the Dispatch team, including coaching, performance management, workforce planning, and employee development.

Monitor and forecast staffing requirements based on fleet growth, schedule changes, and operational requirements, ensuring appropriate shift coverage and departmental resourcing.

Oversee fuel efficiency initiatives through effective flight planning and collaborate with the Chief Pilot, Finance, and other stakeholders to identify opportunities to reduce fuel consumption and operating costs.

Partner with the Chief Dispatcher, Technical to oversee the implementation, optimization, and continuous improvement of Flight Dispatch systems and technologies, including vendor performance, system enhancements, and defect resolution.

Collaborate with the Chief Dispatcher, Training to ensure Dispatch training programs, qualifications, and recurrent training requirements meet regulatory and operational standards.

Lead short- and long-term departmental initiatives focused on improving safety, operational reliability, efficiency, and Cost per Available Seat Mile (CASM).

Develop and implement processes with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen operational coordination, standardization, and effectiveness across Flight Dispatch.

Monitor changes to aviation regulations and industry standards, assess their impact on Flight Dispatch, and coordinate required changes with Flight Operations leadership and affected stakeholders.

Establish and monitor departmental performance measures, identifying trends, operational risks, and opportunities to improve dispatch performance and flight reliability.

Manage relationships with Flight Dispatch technology and service providers, ensuring products and services continue to support operational requirements and business objectives.

Represent the Company at industry conferences, vendor meetings, working groups, and other Flight Dispatch-related forums as required.

Collaborate with Flight Operations, SOCC, Crew Scheduling, Maintenance, Airports, Finance, and other operational teams to support effective decision-making and network performance.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President, Flight Operations.
What You Bring to the Role:

Education:
-
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Aviation, Aviation Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

Transport Canada Flight Dispatcher Certificate, in accordance with applicable Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).

Experience:
-
A minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of direct experience as a Flight Dispatcher is required.
-
A minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of flight dispatch experience in a CARs 705 environment operating under a Type A or Type B operational control system is required.
-
Previous leadership experience in a Dispatch or operational control environment, preferably in the role of Chief Dispatcher or equivalent, is required.

Demonstrated experience leading teams in a 24/7 operational environment, including managing staffing, performance, and operational decision-making.

Proven experience working with regulatory requirements, company manuals, and operational control policies, including CARs 705.

Experience leading or supporting projects related to system implementation, process improvement, fuel efficiency, or operational performance is considered an asset.

Demonstrated ability to analyze operational data, identify trends, and make informed decisions that enhance safety, efficiency, and performance.

Strong organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly when managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Proven ability to remain composed, exercise sound judgment, and make effective decisions during high-pressure or time-sensitive situations.

Proficiency with general computer applications and software, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with the capability to develop practical solutions to operational challenges.

Ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements, operational policies, and technical information in support of safe and compliant dispatch operations.

Clear criminal record check and satisfactory references.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)

Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without restriction.
