Why is this role important?
Please note that this is a general posting for Software Developer positions in various departments

As a Software Developer, you will have exposure to a variety of tools and functions in the business. You will work closely with other Information Technology Services team members, as a part of a multi-disciplinary team to enhance new and existing processes, information systems and applications.
What you'll do
  • As a Software Developer, you will develop, establish, and maintain a thorough understanding of applicable corporate systems development standards and methodologies, tools and techniques, as well as the information management and technology processes which support their development.
  • Participate on technical teams to develop information systems, which may include the full range of requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, quality assurance, implementation and documentation, as well as system application upgrades.
  • Develops ETL applications using Ab Initio, UNIX Shell scripting and Oracle PL/SQL based on design specifications provided by Technical Leads. Maintains current knowledge of technical advancements in related areas.
  • Develops, modifies and executes test plans and test cases to ensure correct and comprehensive testing in adherence to CIHI’s Iterative Development Life Cycle Methodology and Quality Assurance processes.
What you'll bring to the table
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience/education in Computer Science, Mathematics or related discipline.
  • Minimum one to three years of IT experience developing complex, multi-tiered web applications in a development role with client/user interaction.
  • Experience working with and understanding Relational Database Systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and construct complex SQL queries with an emphasis on performance and optimization
  • A conceptual understanding of Fact and Dimension tables as well as a familiarity with Ralph Kimball methodology is a definite asset.
  • Experience with ETL tools such as Ab Initio would be an asset.
  • Experience with web-based development utilizing recent versions of Java, JSP/JSTL, J2EE, J2EE Patterns, XML, HTML, JavaScript and CSS is an asset
  • Familiarity with system development life cycle.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, both written and oral with the ability to communicate effectively with users, management and technical staff.
  • Application development experience using Java IDEs such as Eclipse, J2EE application servers such as Oracle WebLogic, source control systems such as CVS.
  • Demonstrated experience with the Microsoft Office suite (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook and MS PowerPoint).
  • Fluency in both official languages is an asset.
