Position Overview
The Facilities Operations Manager is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, safety, and efficient operation of the resort and thermal spa facilities. This position oversees maintenance and grounds operations, ensuring that buildings, equipment, systems, and outdoor spaces are safe, functional, well maintained, and aligned with the resort's standards for guest experience and operational excellence.
The Facilities Operations Manager, who reports to the Spa Facilities Director, provides leadership to the Maintenance and Grounds teams, manages preventative maintenance programs, coordinates contractors and service providers, and works collaboratively with all departments to support daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities & Maintenance Operations
- Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of resort buildings, thermal spa facilities, equipment, and property.
- Develop and manage preventative and scheduled maintenance programs.
- Ensure maintenance requests and work orders are prioritized and completed in a timely manner.
- Monitor building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and other operational equipment.
- Oversee the maintenance of pools, water systems, and thermal spa equipment in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations.
- Identify facility deficiencies and recommend repairs, replacements, and improvements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspections, work orders, and equipment documentation.
- Monitor maintenance costs, supplies, and inventory.
- Assist with sourcing and coordinating contractors, service providers, and vendors.
- Review contractor work to ensure services meet required standards.
- Seek opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, supervise, and support the Maintenance and Grounds teams.
- Schedule employees and ensure appropriate coverage for operational requirements.
- Provide training, coaching, performance feedback, and ongoing development.
- Establish clear expectations and maintain high standards of performance and accountability.
- Promote a positive, respectful, and safety-focused work environment.
- Participate in employee performance management and disciplinary processes as required.
- Communicate and coordinate planned maintenance and operational disruptions to affected departments.
- Provide regular updates and reports to the Spa Director of Facilities.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, environmental, and operational requirements.
- Conduct regular facility and safety inspections.
- Identify and address potential hazards and ensure corrective action is taken.
- Maintain emergency response procedures related to facilities and building operations.
- Ensure employees use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow safe work procedures.
- Coordinate required inspections, certifications, and regulatory maintenance requirements.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Relevant trade certification or facilities management training is considered an asset.
- 5+ years’ experience in a resort, spa, commercial property, hotel or similar environment.
- Proven leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong working knowledge of building maintenance systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem solving, organizational, and project management skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, and perform physically demanding work; and exposure to varying temperatures.
- WHMIS certification is preferred.
- First Aide and CPR certification is preferred.
- Valid driver's license is required.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as required.
