Monument Engraving and Foundation Technician
Kyan Culture Inc. is seeking a reliable and hardworking Monument Engraving and Foundation Technician to join our cemetery operations team.
This unique position combines monument engraving work in Montreal with monument foundation construction throughout Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.
This is a full-time seasonal position offering a variety of outdoor work, travel, equipment operation, and specialized cemetery services.
Work Schedule
Mid-April to Mid-May
Monument Engraving
- Full-time engraving work
- Monday to Friday
- Early morning departures with work performed in Montreal
- Company vehicle provided for travel from Vankleek Hill to Montreal
- Compensation based on completed engraving work
Mid-May to October / November
Monday to Wednesday – Monument Engraving
- Work performed in Montreal
- Early morning departures
- Company vehicle provided for travel from Vankleek Hill to Montreal
- Compensation based on completed engraving work
Thursday and Friday – Monument Foundations
- Construct monument foundations throughout Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec
- Work in Prescott-Russell, Ottawa, Arnprior, Laurentides, and surrounding areas
- Operate company trucks, trailers, generators, mixers, pumps, and power tools
- Perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions
Compensation
Monument Engraving
- Compensation is based on completed engraving work rather than an hourly wage
- Earnings vary depending on how much engraving work is completed in a day
- Productivity directly impacts earning potential
- Full details of the engraving compensation structure will be discussed during the interview process
Monument Foundations - Hourly Compensation
- $22.00/hour – First season
- Up to $25.00/hour based on returning seasons and experience
Weather Conditions
- This position is weather dependent
- Work schedules may change due to rain and weather conditions
- Concrete foundations generally cannot be poured during rainfall
- Engraving work cannot be performed during rainfall
- Some days may start later, finish earlier, or be rescheduled depending on weather conditions
- Weekend work may occasionally be required to make up weather-related delays
Monument Engraving Duties and Responsibilities
- Engrave and sandblast inscriptions on existing monuments and memorials
- Apply and remove stencils
- Verify monument names, dates, and inscriptions for accuracy
- Install monument photographs and bronze plaques
- Clean and restore monuments
- Operate compressors, generators, sandblasting equipment, and power tools
- Load, unload, and transport equipment and materials
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Work safely and professionally in active cemetery environments
- Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Monument Foundation Duties and Responsibilities
- Measure and locate monument foundation sites
- Excavate foundation locations
- Prepare and level foundation bases
- Set up, remove, and break concrete forms
- Mix, place, and finish concrete
- Backfill and restore work areas
- Load, unload, and transport equipment and materials
- Operate generators, mixers, pumps, trailers, power tools, and hand tools
- Maintain clean and organized worksites
- Protect existing monuments, markers, and cemetery property
- Follow safe work practices and company procedures at all times
Requirements
- Dependable and punctual
- Valid Class G driver's licence
- Comfortable performing physically demanding work
- Able to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment
- Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Able to work on uneven terrain
- Strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
