Position Overview:
Reporting to the Manager of Central Processing, the Processing Technician is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing surgical/procedural instruments and hardware in preparation for sterilization. You will also prepare case carts, sterilize linens, document and report, and other duties as related.

  • Completion of Central Reprocessing course from a recognized college
  • Reprocessing experience in either an OR or CPD
  • Sound knowledge of instrument care and handling and the principles of decontamination and sterilization
  • Proven ability to work independently using initiative
  • Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and documentation skills
  • Basic personal computer experience.
  • Exposure to Lean principles, an understanding of methodologies and tools and a commitment to the use of these in support of providing the best healthcare experience possible to our patients
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public
  • Demonstrated pattern of good attendance
  • Central Services Certificate from an accredited Community College
Physical Demands:
  • Stretching, bending and lifting up to a maximum 12 kg
  • Must be capable of pushing/pulling loaded supply carts
  • Must be able to meet demands of standing and/or walking for extended periods
