JOB SUMMARY
The Communications Technologist is responsible for programming, installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing communications equipment at the repair center and job site.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Testing by means of watt meter, multimeter, antenna diagnostics, DTF, basic service monitor use, modulation, channel bandwidths and signal levels
- Install wireless communications equipment in stationary and mobile applications including light, medium & heavy-duty vehicles and equipment
- Basic diagnostics
- Radio programming
- Basic RF
- Reading and understanding of engineering drawings/documents
- Adherence to all Safety policies and procedures
- Demonstrate professionalism and act as ambassador of Tridon
- Install, maintain, and repair P25 trunked radio systems, Conventional radio systems, MotoTRBO radio systems, TDM multiplexing equipment including T1 applications and wired/wireless LAN and WAN data networks
- Program Conventional/MotoTRBO/Trunking mobile and portable radio equipment
- Install, maintain, and repair of broadband satellite systems
- Install, maintain, and tune antenna multi-coupler systems, duplexers and transmit combiners
- Accurately record time and materials on service orders for all assigned work using NetSuite operations and procedures pertaining to the Technical Services Department
- Complete accurate Labour, Equipment and Material forms (LEM’s) and Job Hazard Assessments (JHA’s)
- Complete required inspection sheets (Vehicle)
- Assist, guide, and mentor employees and/or trainees
- Participate in travel, overtime, and on-call duties as required
- Install and maintain antenna systems on towers to 500’ while complying with safety requirements, tower rigging, and fall arrest procedures (when certified tower climber)
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology or 4 year Bachelors degree with applicable and related field experience
- Electronics Technician Association, International (ETA-I) Associate Level Certification
- Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) Certificate
Experience and Training
- Valid Construction Safety Training System (CSTS - 09) certificate including generic WHMIS Training
- Current Standard First Aid training including Level C CPR (optional)
- Elevated Work Platform (OSSA accredited)
- OSSA Fall Protection
- BSO or CSO Training
- Leadership for Safety Excellence Training (optional)
- Intermediate Wildlife Awareness Training
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work requirements (OH&S)
- Knowledge of hand and power tools, test equipment and design/fabrication techniques
Other Requirements
- Legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of application.
- Full, valid, and current driver’s license
- Clean 5-year driver’s abstract
- Clear Criminal Background Check
- Successful completion of a Pre-Access Drug & Alcohol test, with ongoing random testing as required by clients

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The Communications Technologist must be able to spend the majority of the day sitting, walking, and/or standing. They may be required to stoop, bend, kneel and squat for extended periods of time. They also may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 30lbs for short distances.
