Our Bus Fleet Maintenance & Engineering department is looking for a Technical Trainer responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating technical training programs for maintenance personnel within the bus maintenance fleet. Our primary goal is the improvement of technical skills and competencies of our Bus Fleet Maintenance staff through skills assessments, hands on training programs and in-class settings to communicate effectively with our staff.
Location - Streetsville Garage ( 6190 Mississauga Rd, Mississauga, ON L5N 1A7)
Note -This role requires travel between garages. Having a valid G license in good standing is required for this role.
What will I be doing?
- Development and design of training programs and materials, including manuals, presentations, and hands-on modules.
- Development and management a balanced staff skills matrix through program development and then targeted delivery.
- Collaborate with the maintenance management team to identify training needs and create customized training solutions.
- Conduct interactive classroom and practical training sessions, covering aspects of bus maintenance, including electrical systems, engine diagnostics, brake systems, and HVAC systems.
- Utilize multimedia tools such as videos, animations, and virtual simulations to enhance understanding and engagement.
- Demonstrate maintenance procedures on actual buses or training equipment, emphasizing correct techniques and safety practices.
- Demonstrate proper use of tooling and equipment, emphasizing safety and efficiency.
- Provide OJT and act as a mentor with your students in part by developing targeted programs for their improvement.
- Stay updated with the latest maintenance techniques, tools, and technologies to incorporate into training programs.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement among maintenance personnel.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Demonstrated years of experience in bus or heavy vehicle maintenance along with instructional design, training adults, and applying learning theory experience.
- Experience in Change Management or Project Management would be an asset. Experience in the transit industry an asset.
- Experience in working in a Garage/Shop environment is an asset.
- Certifications or Designations Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP), 310T or 310S Certification is an asset.
- Completion of a postsecondary degree in, Business Administration, Adult Learning, Education, or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Strong technical knowledge of bus maintenance and repair techniques, including electrical systems, engines, transmissions, brakes, and HVAC systems.
- Additional certifications in specialized areas such as HVAC, Electrical Systems, or Engines is considered and asset.
- Previous experience in developing training materials, including manuals, presentations, and hands-on modules.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and best practices to plan and support the development of individuals' skills and abilities so they continue to advance their current and future technical abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
- Must be able to travel to different maintenance sites and work varying schedules to meet the needs of the Garages.
- Physical demands include standing for long periods, lifting equipment, and demonstrating repair techniques.
- Valid G drivers license in good standing is required.
