We're seeking a highly motivated team member who enjoys a deal-oriented environment and can handle multiple projects, to join our specialized infrastructure private equity team.
This role requires a deep understanding of valuation theory, excellent strategic thinking skills and an ability to draw conclusions following in-depth analysis. You will use your strong interpersonal and communication skills to articulate ideas and recommendations internally, as well as with external investment partners, senior company executives and diligence advisors.
Who you’ll work with
Based in Toronto, you will be a core member of an agile Americas team, reporting to our head of Infrastructure investing for the Americas within the Infrastructure & Natural Resources ("INR") group. You will primarily on North America within the Americas Team, but may also work on LATAM projects as required.
INR is a direct private equity investor, and our team of over 40 highly specialized investment professionals leads the execution of large infrastructure deals, with a goal to deploy C$500 million to C$1.5 billion or larger in each transaction.
INR has offices in Toronto, London and Singapore with an additional presence in Chile and Australia. Currently, INR leads a diverse portfolio of approximately C$26 billion in 35+ portfolio companies in North America, South America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and India, with a mandate to grow over the coming years.
The objective of our direct investing program is to build a portfolio that provides predictable cash flow, inflation protection, and diversification. INR seeks companies where the market risk is mitigated by regulation, sustainable barriers to entry, or contractual agreements.
What you’ll do
You will work as part of a team to evaluate and execute transactions, as well as to manage our existing portfolio companies. A meaningful element of the role is overseeing the work of and mentoring our Analysts and Associates.
As a valued teammate of our transaction execution team, you will:
Work with and lead external advisors to conduct due diligence on investment opportunities;
Handle the development of sophisticated financial models to analyze investment opportunities;
Oversee valuation analysis including identifying key value drivers and financial risks, and
Manage the preparation of presentations, reports and investment recommendations to senior executives.
In managing existing portfolio investments, you will:
Work closely with portfolio company management and the board of directors to shape corporate strategy and implement value-enhancing initiatives, including capital projects, operational improvements, refinancings and bolt-on acquisitions;
Review and analyze board materials, business plans, and other information prepared by management of our portfolio companies;
Direct the development and maintenance of financial models for our existing investments, and
Prepare internal valuations of portfolio companies.
What you’l l need
5 to 7 years of work experience, preferably in principal investing or investment banking
Experience leading material aspects of the investment process, including financial modelling, conducting due diligence and participating in debt financing
Proven history of working collaboratively as part of a team to meet tight timelines within a project-based work environment
Strong interpersonal skills, communication and presentation skills and proficiency in written and verbal English
Excellent analytical and quantitative skills to perform in-depth, innovative, critical analysis
A willingness and ability to travel frequently
