Part-Time Aging-In-Place Care Giver
Background
A senior couple living on an organic farm south of Saskatoon is seeking a care giver to serve as part of a team in an ageing in place arrangement. At present, the care needs are primarily focused on the 78 year old wife’s recent congestive heart failure (CHF), Atrial fibrillation (A-Fib) and insulin dependent Type 2 diabetes diagnosis (October 2024) as well as a brain stem stroke (May 2025) after effects. She now uses a four wheeled walker as mobility aid. She has made good progress since the last event and is steadily gaining strength and increasing former activities.
A qualified nurse is in place to oversee her medication with particular emphasis on insulin regime and the regular procurement of medications. Physiotherapy is also being addressed.
The 82 year old husband is in good health at this time and is part of the care arrangement for his wife.
The incumbent will attend at the couple’s home mornings (8:30 - ?) Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week; there is flexibility in this requirement. The incumbent working with the couple will establish a daily/weekly work schedule, subject to modification as time progresses.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Transport of patient to medical and other appointments as required.
2. Personal care and physical hygiene – showering etc.
3. Exercise – stimulation of daily exercise routine – swimming etc.
4. Companionship – stimulation of her interests, music, gardening, painting, cooking, visiting, swimming, etc.
5. Procurement of groceries and other domestic supplies.
6. Preparation of daily meals including preparation of some meals for days not in attendance and weekends.
7. Diet – stimulation of heart and health ‘smart’ menus
Secondary Responsibilities:
1. – kitchen, dining, bathroom and bedroom area.
2. Pool system monitoring and pool deck cleaning.
Tertiary Responsibilities:
1. Light housekeeping – feeding and exercising as agreed upon from time to time.
2. Such other daily tasks as are agreed upon from time to time.
3. Light summer upper yard work - flowerbed, shrub and tree grooming (optional).
Qualifications
Nursing experience with patients with CHF and A-Fib and Type 2 diabetes is very beneficial but not absolutely essential.
Remuneration
Commensurate with experience; $25 to $35/hr. is envisaged with minimum three hour per attendance event. Employer paid Group Health Insurance benefits apply.
