BCIT’s Learning and Teaching Centre is seeking a regular, full-time Course Production Senior Developer. This position works collaboratively with educators, designers, developers, artists and technologists to evaluate, design, develop, integrate, maintain, and support online course production learning applications and systems. This position is also responsible for coordinating software development and mentoring colleagues.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Leadership:

Coordinates activities of new software projects.
Fosters and promotes an agile, user-centric, evidence-based approach to software development.
Mentors team members by providing guidance, direction and support.
Discovery and planning:
Discovers and analyzes technologies that can improve learning and the LTC’s operations.
Researches and reports on new and evolving software, industry standards, technology trends and emerging best practices.
Advises and contributes to strategic initiatives by recommending appropriate technologies, software capabilities, and the integration of learning applications that support teaching and learning.
Designing and building:
Coordinates the design, development, and deployment of course production software.
Works with stakeholders to develop new service offerings and implement operational improvements.
Designs and programs applications that simplify and enhance the accessibility and convenience of the student and faculty experience.
Develops and continuously validates problems, personas, scenarios, testable hypotheses, MVP’s and goals.
Implements the processes, infrastructure, and code for technologies related to the LTC’s operations.
Programs/scripts application logic and system integration.
Tests and prototypes to determine applicability and compatibility with existing applications/systems.
Conducts primary research including interviews, focus groups, and user tests.
Implements and employs continuous integration to ensure quality and consistency of production code.
Support and maintenance:
Troubleshoots and resolves incidents, issues, and problems with applications and software systems.
Provides ongoing maintenance and support for applications and software systems.
Prescribes standards/guidelines for code and methodologies for the development of software.
Participates in Records Custodian training and remains current with record keeping practices, policies and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP).
Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of this position.

Bachelor’s degree, technical diploma, or an equivalent combination of certifications in web development, computer systems/administration, information technology, or programming.
Two years of general computer systems experience plus two years of recent, related programming experience in a similar position.
Demonstrated expertise with system administration, software development, and technology integration.
Experience as a project manager with a proven ability to establish priorities, identify tasks, coordinate the activities of project participants and report on the status of a project.
Portfolio of web applications or equivalent examples of work required.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Must be proficient with front-end development (HTML5, CSS4, ECMAScript), back-end development (Nodejs, PHP), pre/post-processors (SASS, Post-CSS, CSSNext, Babel, webpack), continuous integration/deployment pipelines, and version control (Git).
Must possess knowledge of issue management (Github, GitLab) and database management (SQL, NoSQL).
Experience with containers, front-end frameworks, software development methodologies, task runners, web accessibility standards, browser compatibility, unit testing frameworks, REST APIs, WebVR, Linux, learning management systems, Wiki platforms would be considered an asset.

Salary Range Pay Grade 10; $57,734 with yearly increments to $62,646 per annum.
