Pathology Attendant Laboratory Assistant

What you’ll do
Maintain processing and staining equipment by performing duties such as changing solutions on tissue processors and stainers, preparing solutions, and recycling reagents. Perform cleaning duties such as cleaning and sterilizing glassware and equipment.
Dispose of waste chemicals and surgical and autopsy wet tissues.
Perform laboratory duties such as preparing and treating slides with adhesive agents, and preparing paraffin blocks for cutting.
File slides and tissue blocks.
Pick up specimens from operating theatres and hospital units, and transport them to the laboratory.
Perform clerical and receptionist duties, including answering the telephone, taking messages, and communicating laboratory results to appropriate staff. Print, sort, and distribute patient reports as required.
What you bring
Grade 12 completion
Successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program
Completion of anatomy courses
One (1) year’s recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
You have the ability to:
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Deal with others effectively.
Physically carry out the duties of the position.
Operate related equipment.
Type at 25 wpm.
