Summary

This role supports profitable growth by building a compliant, customer-focused assortment, maintaining healthy inventory levels, analyzing sales and market trends, and collaborating with internal teams and external suppliers. The Buyer must operate with a strong understanding of applicable cannabis regulations, responsible retail practices, product quality, pricing, and inventory controls.
Responsibilities
· Develop and maintain best in class product assortments that align with customer demand, category strategy, store format, regulatory requirements, and company objectives.
· Place purchase orders, manage replenishment, and monitor open orders to ensure timely product availability across retail locations or channels.
· Supports Item Creation, PO Creation, PO Tracking ensuring accuracy in item, costing, delivery information and other pertinent administrative requirements for the merchandising and finance teams
· Analyze sales performance, inventory levels, sell-through, margins, weeks on hand, stock-outs, and aged inventory to guide purchasing decisions.
· Review market trends, new product launches, consumer preferences, competitor activity, pricing, and promotional opportunities within the legal cannabis sector.
· Negotiate pricing, promotional support, terms, product availability, and launch plans with suppliers while maintaining professional vendor relationships.
· Partner with marketing, retail operations, finance, compliance, and store teams to support assortment planning, product launches, promotions, and inventory execution.
· Maintain accurate product, pricing, vendor, and purchasing records in company systems.
· Support responsible inventory management by identifying slow-moving, discontinued, or aged products and recommending markdown, transfer, or exit strategies where permitted.
· Provide product knowledge, category insights, and purchasing recommendations to internal stakeholders.
· Maintains knowledge of product offering from competition in the market and takes steps to ensure banner product and pricing is optimal at all times and point of difference is clear to consumer through product offering. Takes necessary steps to prepare and manage recommended price changes.
· Identify process improvements that increase ordering efficiency, reduce excess inventory, improve in-stock rates, and support profitable category growth.
· Protect confidential business, supplier, customer, sales, and inventory information.

Qualifications
· Experience in buying, procurement, merchandising, category management, inventory planning, retail operations, or supply chain management.
· Experience in cannabis, regulated retail, consumer packaged goods, beverage alcohol, pharmacy, grocery, or another compliance-driven industry is considered an asset.
· Strong understanding of purchasing principles, inventory control, vendor management, pricing, promotions, and margin performance.
· Knowledge of legal cannabis products, categories, formats, consumer trends, and regulatory requirements is preferred.
· Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data, inventory reports, and market insights.
· Excellent communication, negotiation, organization, and relationship-management skills.
· Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and make data-informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other business systems such as POS, ERP, inventory management, reporting, or business intelligence tools.
· Must meet all legal, regulatory, licensing, training, age, and background-check requirements applicable to working in the cannabis industry.
