We are seeking a Director of Health & Wellness (Chief Medical Director) to lead our health and wellness team. The successful candidate will lead several teams totaling 80 specialists in Occupational Health, Safety & Prevention, Industrial Hygiene, Integrated Disability Management (IDM), and Health & Wellness who support our employees enterprise-wide. This is a dynamic and pivotal role that provides the opportunity to apply skills and training in medical practice, as well as lead and support the development of programs and resources that protect and enrich the physical and mental well-being of all Suncor employees.
Minimum Requirements:
10-15 years of progressively more senior experience working in a health setting, including the development, implementation, delivery, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of health and/or social service programs and services
Previous experience leading senior nurses and case managers
Completed Medical Doctor degree is preferred; other combinations of education (ex: Master’s degree in a health-related discipline, or Registered Nurse) and experience may be considered
Deep knowledge of medical terminology and Disability Management best practices/protocols
Knowledge of relevant provincial employment legislation and legal requirements
Demonstrated experience with health program administration and management, including serving on medical advisory committees, management of program budgets and labour relations, and community advisory committees
Experience with integrated service delivery design, project management, implementation and evaluation
Ability to make decisions with a cost-management, people focused, and continuous improvement mindset
Excellent communication skills including the ability to facilitate, negotiate, and persuade others; with the ability to make formal presentations to senior leaders
Bilingualism in French and English would be considered an asset
Responsibilities:
Oversee the management of risks associated with employee wellness, including health and safety protocols
Lead the development and compliance of policies and procedures to reflect current legal standards and best practices
Design, oversee, and evaluate health and wellness programs
Act as owner for programs and policies (ex: Alcohol & Drug standards)
Lead and mentor a team of health professionals, fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment
Support site emergency response teams
Contribute to organizational annual planning, the annual operating budgeting and strategic planning
Support Suncor's integrated business model and translate Suncor's strategic directions and objectives into team-specific goals and objectives to achieve business area priorities
Establish and maintain partnerships with provincial health authorities and Workers' Compensation Board (WCB)
Liaise with regulatory bodies and lead investigations as required for the organization
Location and other Key Details:
This is an office-based role; you will work out of our Calgary head office located in the Suncor Energy Centre (150 – 6th Ave SW)
Relocation support will be provided
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
Occasional business travel (6-7 times per year) may be required
