Penelakut Island Elementary School is seeking a passionate and experienced Literacy Teacher, and Co-Teacher for a Grade 1/2 classroom. The successful candidate will support student learning through collaboration with educators, support staff, the principal, and families.
This role involves developing and implementing meaningful literacy programs, promoting inclusive practices, and strengthening student success through responsive instruction.

- Plan and deliver inclusive instruction for a multi-grade Grade 1/2 classroom

Differentiate lessons to meet diverse learning styles and needs

Build strong relationships with students, staff, families, and the community

Design and implement curriculum that integrates Indigenous knowledge and perspectives

Foster a classroom culture grounded in the 4 R’s: Respect, Reciprocity, Responsibility, and Relationships

Collaborate on school-wide projects and community-based learning opportunities

Complete assessments and report cards with meaningful, student-centered feedback

Demonstrate openness to learning and using Hul’q’umi’num language and cultural practices

Participate in the development and monitoring of competency-based IEPs

Ensure compliance with Penelakut policies and FNESC/BC standards

Maintain and manage inventory of assistive devices, resources, and specialized learning tools

Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to meet individual student needs

Provide direct instruction and support for students with identified learning needs

Track and report student progress regularly to families and staff

Participate in school-based teams, meetings, workshops, and committees

Involve families and community members in classroom learning whenever possible

Collaborate with the school-based team to adjust teaching strategies and classroom supports

Set high expectations for student achievement and behaviour

Maintain confidentiality in accordance with relevant education policies

Report safety concerns promptly and follow all health and safety regulations
Qualifications:

BC Teaching Certificate (or proof of application)

Current Criminal Record Check (for out-of-province applicants)
