Talent Pool – Clerk, Multiple Departments (Permanent Part-Time, Temporary Part-Time)

Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) is a state-of-the-art regional hospital with a proud local history extending back over a century. The Health Centre is located in Peterborough, Ontario, boasting a mere a 90-minute drive north-east of Toronto and known as the gateway to Kawartha cottage country. With a capacity of 494 beds, our regional hospital has one of the busiest Emergency Departments in Ontario and offers an extensive range of services, including specialized programs in renal, stroke, cardiac, cancer care, and vascular surgery.

The Clerk performs all clerical and administrative functions under the direction of the Unit Manager/Charge Nurse and communicates with unit staff to facilitate the smooth operation of the unit in order to serve its purpose in caring for the patient/families and friends.
Completion of a Hospital Secretary Certificate program (i.e. Medical Unit Clerk, Hospital Unit Secretary, Nursing Unit Clerk etc.) AND/OR
Medical Office Administration Certificate or Diploma program (i.e. Medical Office Support, Medical Administrative Assistant, Office Administration Health Services) AND/OR
An equivalent combination of education and work experience
Previous hospital unit clerk experience and/or experience in an outpatient setting would be considered an asset.
Previous experience in an outpatient setting would be considered an asset.
Excellent knowledge of medical terminology as it is related to Ward Secretary functions.
Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
Good working knowledge of computerized programs - meditech (order entry)
Demonstrated accurate keyboarding skills (40 wpm).
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent telephone manner.
Demonstrated ability to work in stressful situations.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated interest in updating/maintaining skills.
Demonstrated ability to work well with patients, families and staff as a team member.
Demonstrated good attendance with ability to maintain this standard.
