About the Role
An established residential real estate development group in the Greater Toronto Area is seeking an experienced in-house paralegal to support its day-to-day legal operations. The role is varied and hands-on, covering corporate, real estate, and dispute-related matters, with regular coordination with external counsel.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft and prepare a range of legal correspondence, pleadings, and responding materials under the supervision of external counsel.
- Maintain organized physical and digital file management systems, including file indexing, document categorization, and deadline tracking.
- Track all procedural deadlines, court dates, and limitation periods using a centralized calendar.
- Coordinate document production and respond to information requests from counsel and regulatory bodies.
- Prepare and respond to demand letters, settlement correspondence, and without-prejudice communications.
- Assist in prepared Minutes of Settlement, Releases, and related documents under counsel supervision.
- Liaise with external real estate counsel on purchaser closings, deposit matters, and pre-closing documentation.
- Support the company in responding to construction lien claims and related real estate matters as they arise.
- Serve as the primary internal point of contact with external counsel across litigation, real estate, and corporate matters.
- Review external counsel invoices for accuracy and assist with file budgeting.
Qualifications
- Licensed Paralegal (P1) in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, OR a senior law clerk / litigation clerk with 5+ years of relevant experience working under lawyer supervision.
- Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on civil litigation experience, including drafting responding pleadings.
- Strong working knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure and Small Claims Court Rules.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple active files simultaneously without missing deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Proficient with MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and electronic court filing portals (Civil Submissions Online, Justice Services Online)
Strong Assets
- Prior in-house experience at a real estate developer, builder, or construction firm.
- Familiarity with Tarion, HCRA, and Ontario new home purchase agreements.
- Working knowledge of Punjabi, Hindi, or Urdu is an asset.
