Description
- 1 position available for 2-3 evening (16:00 to 00:00) shifts with the possibility of more as needed.
Harbour Authority (SHA) is a non-profit organization that manages the largest fishing harbour in Canada. SHA is made up of a team of diverse men and women who are working collaboratively to fulfill our mandate of providing Safety, Service and Security to Commercial Fisherman.

- Must have integrity and be of good character.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Have successfully completed Grade 12 or have a grade 12 equivalency.
- Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Have a valid BC Security Workers License or have the ability to obtain a BC Security Workers License.
- Be able to lift and carry loads of 20-35lbs of weight over short distances.
- Be able to upkeep and maintain a Uniform and notebook.
- Be self-motivated, organized and work well within a team environment.
- Have customer service skills.
- Have fluent computer knowledge to search data bases, answer emails and update a website form daily.
- Be able to perform extensive foot patrols and be comfortable working in an outdoor environment in sometimes extreme weather conditions.
- Have the ability to problem solve.
- Be comfortable with using technology such as mobile applications and handheld devices.
- Be adaptable to change.
- Clean background check.
Preferred assets;
- Basic Security training (BST).
- Conflict Resolution training.
- Security related experience.
- Occupational First Aid 1.
- Environmental spill training.
- Knowledge of the Commercial Fishing Industry.
- Vessel/Boat knowledge.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performs daily foot and mobile patrol of floats, piers, wharves and upland facilities to ensure that all gear, vessels and assets are safe.
- Ensures all vessels, buildings and vehicles on site are locked and secure.
- Provide customer service to Harbour users and members of the public.
- Perform daily boat counts and ensure vessels are properly tied up in the event of inclement weather.
- Lock and open site gates at various hours
- Ensures all harbour users comply with all Harbour Authority directives and enforces directives when necessary.
- Enforce parking regulations.
- Inspect shore power cables and that vessels are connecting with approved equipment.
- Responds to emergencies onsite such as environmental spills and vessels taking on water.
- Write and submit on a handheld Occurrence and Maintenance Reports.
- Observe vessel waterlines and be proactive with vessels that may be in distress.
- Empty onsite garbage bins on a daily basis.
- Provide a uniformed presence on all SHA properties.
The Steveston Harbour Authority manages Canada's largest Commercial Fishing Harbour for the Federal Government of Canada (Small Craft Harbours). We provide Service, Security and Safety to the Commercial Fisherman and upland tenants.

Starting rate: $19.00 /hour
After successfully completing a 6-month probation period: $19.50 /hour
