The Child Minding Volunteer is responsible for supervising and engaging children in age-appropriate activities during scheduled Adult Gym sessions. This volunteer role helps create a positive experience for participating families and supports the YMCA's commitment to building healthy, connected communities.

- Location: Giant's Head Elementary School, Summerland, BC
- Status: Volunteer
- Reporting to: Manager of Community Programs
- Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM
- Program Dates: September 14 to December 18
- Future Opportunity: This volunteer opportunity may continue into the Winter session based on program participation and community response.
This volunteer position provides families with an opportunity to participate in YMCA wellness programming while knowing their children are being supervised in a safe and supportive environment. By creating positive experiences for children, volunteers help strengthen community connections and support healthy lifestyles for the whole family.
- Provide attentive supervision for children during Adult Gym programming.
- Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Lead and support age-appropriate games, crafts, and activities.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and fellow volunteers.
- Ensure YMCA policies and safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Respond appropriately to children's needs and communicate concerns to YMCA staff.
- Assist with setting up and tidying activity spaces before and after programs.
- Promote YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and inclusion.
- Interest in working with children and supporting family programs.
- Experience working with children is an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
