Your Purpose
The Senior Accountant will be a financial business partner that focuses on collaboration with internal teams to achieve business objectives while taking care of the operational finance requirements. They will support the accounting function including but not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory management, payroll, cash management and transactional accounting by managing key financial processes and ensuring the accuracy of financial records. This role is essential for maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and providing timely financial information to assist in decision-making. The Senior Accountant will work closely with the finance team, taking on responsibilities related to general accounting and reporting.
Your Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis to support financial planning
- Maintain the general ledger and support the monthly closing process, ensuring timely reconciliations
- Maintain and update the company 3-way financial model to reflect strategic business decisions
- Collaborate on inventory management processes, including valuation and reconciliation
- Support payroll administration and ensure compliance with payroll regulations
- Liaise with external auditors during annual audits and assist in preparing necessary documentation
- Ensure compliance with all statutory, legal, and regulatory obligations, including tax filings
- Monitor the financial control environment to ensure it is effective, sustainable and supportive of business growth by streamlining policies, procedures and internal controls.
- Mentor and support the accounting clerk, fostering development and teamwork.
- Contribute to other projects and initiatives as needed
Job Requirements & Credentials:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field
- 5+ years proven accounting experience
- Professional accounting certification (CPA, CMA, CGA, or CA) preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory compliance
- Experience with multi-jurisdictions practices (Ontario, BC, Alberta, and others) is an asset
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, with a collaborative approach to teamwork
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization to provide a financial view to their function and responsibilities
