Infrastructure Ontario (IO), an Ontario crown corporation, provides a wide range of services to support the Ontario government’s initiative to modernize and maximize the value of public infrastructure and realty. Position Purpose:
Reporting to the Director Environmental Management Operations, the energy specialist is responsible for energy related deliverables and supports sustainability initiatives on the behalf of IO and client ministries.
The position ensures energy management outcomes align with provincial government priorities and corporate initiatives related to utility management and optimizing building operations. This role also assists with managing the specific energy performance, reviewing energy modelling reports and reporting requirements included within the service providers’ P3 contracts.
What You Will Do:
- Provide interpretation and review of energy modelling reports that are completed by consultants for projects.
- Validation of the service provider’s P3 energy contract performance.
- Responsible for the review of submitted energy designs for new builds. Advise and guide Ministries on efficiency requirements and international best practices for energy management in various building types (office buildings, courthouses, hospitals).
- Oversee IO’s GHG accounting and annual reporting requirements.
- Manage and maintain IO’s LEED Guideline, and review/approve proposed LEED credits for new construction projects.
- Champion energy and sustainability datasets, including energy consumption, energy cost, greenhouse gas emissions, incentives, and other deliverables provided by IO’s Real Property Services team.
- Assist in the management of IO’s sustainability program for the existing real estate portfolio, including energy efficient planning and projects, waste management, water conservation, renewable and alternative energy, and stormwater management.
- Support the development and implementation of a formal measurement and verification program tracking the relative success of energy related capital projects presented by P3 private sector service providers.
- Coordinate directly with internal teams such as P3 Operations, Capital Delivery, Project Controls and Legal.
- Provide technical support and oversight of commissioning, building equipment, sub-metering, and innovative technologies.
- Support climate resilience program initiatives in tandem with energy and sustainability.
Who You Are:
- Post-Secondary degree in a related field (environmental studies, environmental science, or engineering) ideally with minimum 5 years of experience with and/or knowledge of Sustainability, and Energy Management; accreditation in LEED would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of asset management, including building envelope, mechanical, electrical, building systems/codes/standards as related to energy management and sustainability for new construction.
- A strategic and collaborative team member with the ability to influence and inspire across cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- An analytical and evidence-based decision maker with strong research, policy, and data interpretation skills.
- A strong communicator (written/verbal) with exceptional relationship-building, facilitation, and stakeholder-engagement skills with the ability to influence and present at all levels.

We offer a competitive hiring range of $93,100 to $105,000 (P4 level), pay will align with skills, knowledge and experience of the candidate.
