CNC Machinist - Transit

Summary of Position
Cadre’s Transit division offers our clients technical rail service solutions including commissioning and testing of new transit vehicles, warranty repairs, preventative maintenance, and inspection services. Our Electrical Technicians work with the leading Ontario transit suppliers and agencies, ensuring their equipment is available to provide reliable on time service to their passengers in some of North America’s largest transit systems.

Reporting to the Director of Maintenance, the CNC Machinist will be responsible for the set-up and commissioning of the machine shop. Once set up, the CNC Machines will support the product introduction and commissioning of Low Floor Light Rail Vehicles (LFLRVs) and BiLevel Passenger Cars being delivered to regional transit agencies operating in the GTA. The CNC Machinist will produce machined parts for the maintenance team, supporting the delivery of the new transit vehicles.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Commissioning, programming and testing of newly installed CNC machinery
Set-up of CNC lathes and milling machines to fabricate parts to specifications and tolerances indicated on the production drawings
Download CNC programs; set up and operate machines with fixtures and tooling as outlines on set-up sheets
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers
Document and report issues or changes in the work instructions to supervisor and engineering department
Perform routine preventative maintenance; clean and lubricate machines, tools and equipment
Completed Post-Secondary education in the field of Mechanical Engineering or CNC Machinist from an accredited technical school or equivalent experience
Experience installing and comissioning new CNC equipment, programming experience would be considered a strong asset
Skilled in measuring techniques and equipment
Hands on experience working with manual lathes, mills and drill presses
Capable of reading and understanding mechanical drawings and maintenance manuals
Experience with HVAC systems, electrical assembly or equipment maintenance would be considered a strong asset
Strong communication skills and capable working with computers
