Operations Assistant

The Opportunity
JGL Commodities Ltd. is seeking an Operations Assistant to support the day-to-day operation of our grain-handling facility in Marengo, Saskatchewan.
Working closely with the Operations Manager and the trading, logistics, and operations teams, this role supports grain movement from producer delivery through to customer shipment.
Responsibilities include producer communication, grain purchasing support, contract execution, logistics coordination, inventory management, and hands-on facility operations.
This is a practical, varied role for someone who enjoys agriculture, working with people, and being involved in both the operational and commercial sides of the grain business.
This is an in-person position based in Marengo. Flexibility is required during harvest and other peak periods, including occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Training and mentorship will be provided, with opportunities to continue developing your knowledge and responsibility across the grain business.

Key Responsibilities
Grain Operations & Facility Support
- Support the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the Marengo facility.
- Assist with receiving, weighing, sampling, grading, handling, storing, and shipping grain.
- Coordinate producer deliveries and outbound customer shipments.
- Support inventory management, quality monitoring, storage, and reconciliation.
- Assist with loading rail cars and other hands-on facility operations as required.
- Help maintain equipment, work areas, and the facility in a safe and operational condition.
Producer, Contract & Logistics Support
- Build and maintain positive relationships with producers and customers.
- Communicate with producers regarding grain availability, pricing, and delivery opportunities.
- Support grain purchasing and work alongside the trading and merchandising team.
- Assist with the administration and execution of grain purchase and sales contracts.
- Coordinate grain movement based on contractual commitments, transportation availability, and facility capacity.
- Maintain accurate contract, delivery, inventory, ticket, and transaction records.
- Help identify and resolve delivery, contract, and operational issues.
Safety & Development
- Follow company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in safety meetings, inspections, training, and incident reporting.
- Take ownership of learning, seek feedback, and continue developing knowledge across grain operations, logistics, merchandising, and producer relationships.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- A reliable, accountable approach with a willingness to take ownership and follow through.
- Strong teamwork and the ability to build positive relationships with producers and customers.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Excel, and the ability to learn new systems.
- Comfort working in both an office environment and a hands-on operational setting.
- Ability and willingness to work additional hours during peak agricultural seasons.
- A genuine interest in agriculture and a willingness to learn and grow.
Work Environment
This role includes both office and hands-on facility responsibilities. Work may involve exposure to grain dust, noise, machinery, heights, cold and changing weather conditions. The position may also involve climbing ladders and stairs, moving equipment, loading rail cars, and working extended hours during peak periods.
Assets
The following are considered assets, but are not required:
- Grain grading or grain-handling experience.
- Agriculture, agricultural sales, customer service, or logistics experience.
- Familiarity with Western Canadian agriculture and grain production.
- Post-secondary education in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Business, Commerce, or a related field.
- Previous grain buying, merchandising, or elevator experience.
Previous grain experience is not required. Training and mentorship will be provided.
