Smitten Kitten, a local designer-maker of award-winning gift and paper goods, is looking for a Hot Foil Press Operator to help us with a short-term Christmas card production project!
You'll be working out of @ihaveacrushonyoushop, Smitten Kitten's brick-and-mortar shop and studio in Liberty Village. It's a fun, colourful and very productive environment, and we need an extra set of capable hands to help us get approximately 500 custom Christmas cards printed and ready to go by September 30.
The main part of this job will be operating our Kwikprint hot foil stamping press to customize greeting cards in small batches. We have four card designs, with city names changed between orders. Most runs are approximately 18 cards, with some larger runs of up to 54.
General responsibilities include:
- Operating our Kwikprint hot foil stamping press
- Setting up and positioning cards for accurate printing
- Changing type/dies and city names between orders
- Adjusting the press as needed for clean, consistent impressions
- Printing small batches accurately and efficiently
- Checking foil coverage, placement and overall print quality
- Counting and organizing completed orders
- Keeping your workspace clean and organized
We're looking for someone who is:
- Reliable and punctual
- Detail-oriented and good with their hands
- Comfortable operating and making adjustments to production equipment
- Able to work independently once trained
- Patient enough to get setup and alignment right, but efficient once a run is ready to go
- Comfortable with repetitive, hands-on production work
- Able to follow instructions and keep multiple small orders organized
- Available to complete the required production before October 1
Previous hands-on print production experience is required. Experience with hot foil stamping, letterpress, printing presses, bindery equipment or similar print production equipment is ideal. You do not need to have used a Kwikprint specifically, but you should be confident working with printing equipment and able to get up and running quickly with minimal training.
This is a short-term, temporary/seasonal position, approximately 5–15 hours per week, with some flexibility in scheduling. The project will run through September and finish no later than October 1.
Pay: $19–$21/hour, depending on experience.
