The Mechanical Shop Laborer is responsible for supporting the assembly team and shop operations. This role requires mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety. The individual will assist shop staff in a variety of tasks including material handling, housekeeping, and shipping/receiving, ensuring a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
Education, Skills, and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Proven mechanical aptitude; experience with rotating equipment, automotive repair, or similar is an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and written instructions.
- Experience with centrifugal and reciprocating pumps is an asset.
- Ability to effectively manage time and meet deadlines.
- Ability to detect technical malfunctions and perform basic repairs.
- Familiar with hand tools for grinding, drilling, boring press
- Forklift and crane operation experience is an asset.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Shop Support & Laborer Duties
- Perform housekeeping activities to maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
- Assist with loading and unloading trucks, yard organization, and shipping/receiving tasks.
- Assist Machinists, Senior assemblers, and Coating departments as required.
- Optimize raw material usage through proper layout, measurement, and coding of cut materials.
- Ensure IMPACT tooling and equipment are returned to designated areas and report damaged or missing tools.
- Maintain a tidy work area, shared workspaces, and comply with all shop safety procedures.
Technical Duties
- Learn to dismantle and reassemble components using hand and power tools.
- Prep, paint, and finish parts as required.
- Grind and Polish
- Perform and record in-process quality inspections using appropriate measuring tools.
- Obtain feedback from Production and Engineering departments to ensure quality and functionality of assemblies.
- Place orders for spare and replacement parts and maintain documentation.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety protocols and HSE manual guidelines.
- Prioritize safety in all activities and report hazards, safety issues, or improvement suggestions to the Supervisor or HSE Specialist.
- Complete all required documentation in accordance with company policies and quality processes.
General
- Perform any other job-related or support duties as required by the Shop Supervisor.
