Medicine Hat College is seeking a Senior Residence Assistant. While this posting is open to internal and external candidates, preference will be given to Medicine Hat College employees. It is preferred that external applicants have previous student residence experience. Please note, qualified applicants will have to meet certain criteria as a part of the selection process. This is a contract position for a one-year term, commencing July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027, with the potential for renewal on an annual basis.
The Senior Residence Assistant provides leadership to the Residence Assistant (RA) team. Acting as the first point of contact for RAs during complex incidents and emergencies, this role responds to situations as they arise, supports RAs in applying residence policies, reviews incident reports, and keeps an eye on patterns or ongoing concerns. The Senior RA helps ensure situations are handled calmly and effectively, with appropriate follow-up, documentation, and communication.
The successful candidate will support the “Residence Life” experience by helping to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where residents can succeed academically and personally. Responsibilities include building positive relationships, mentoring and supporting RAs, coordinating residence programming, staying aware of community dynamics, and helping with the training of new RAs. The Senior RA also works to maintain consistency, professionalism, and accountability across the RA team.
Compensation for the Senior Residence Assistant position will be a monthly rent waiver that includes utilities, and internet. In addition, a monthly stipend (equivalent to a monthly regular room rate) will be paid to the Senior RA. This position will reside in Golfview Residence. The Senior RA will be on-call to Resident Assistants after hours, and on weekends. During the September – April period, the Senior RA will be on-call 3 of 4 weeks/month; during May – August, the Senior RA will be on-call 2 of 4 weeks/month.
