The candidate will report to the Manager, Manulife Investment Management (MIM) Revenue, Billing, Legal Entity Reporting within the MIM Revenue, Billing, Legal Entity Reporting team. The primary role is to execute accurate, timely and relevant company-wide revenue and billing processes and build robust legal entity reporting to support board, regulatory and governance functions. The team is part of the Global Wealth & Asset Management Accounting & Reporting team.
Job responsibilities would focus around private market products and clientele, a fast-growing segment within the MIM business.
Revenue & Billing (30% of monthly workload):
Monitor and review system-driven accrual and invoice process (both intercompany and third-party) – review responsibilities include:
- New client setup through automated Excel templates
- Modification of existing client static data, including GL attributes
- AUM feeds for system import and AUM and fee templates, including fluctuation investigation
- Review of fee calculations and invoice templates (where applicable) prior to system-driven distribution to clients - Client cash receipts
For manual clients and processes, perform detailed review of Excel-based invoice and journal entries
Monitor system-driven journal entry trending for accuracy and completeness
Review system-driven or manual client account reconciliations and aging; assist with investigation of breaks and outstanding receipts
Monitor clearance of suspense accounts on a consistent basis for multiple entities
Review Source View reporting for accuracy; investigate irregularities with company-wide Finance teams
Execute controls and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
Legal Entity Reporting (45% of monthly workload) :
Prepare financial statements and disclosures for a number of subsidiaries
Preparation of CFO and Board of Directors reporting packages
Prepare asset roll-forward schedules explaining quarter over quarter changes
Maintain and update financial reporting software tool
Preparation of legal entity regulatory reporting requirements
Support financial analysis of product development initiatives
Oversight of financial statement preparation and annual audit coordination support
Assist in coordination of tax filings and tax compliance and Assist in coordination of external audit
Provide timely and accurate service to setup and evaluate the financial reporting implications of new products and initiatives
Project Management (20% of monthly workload):
Support the Senior Analyst with creating robust onboarding process for Private Market initiatives
Coordinate with various partners and or subject matter authorities while building out the formalized process and participate in the product strategy meetings
Support the Senior Analyst with onboarding new deals
Perform the daily/weekly operational tasks such as tracking deals and funding requirements, projecting cash flows and executing draws/repayments of funding.
Projects, process improvement (5% of monthly workload)
Collaborate with other team members and business partners on special projects, as the need arises
See opportunities to improve existing processes and achieve efficiencies by optimization and automation
Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, accounting information systems or computer science preferred
1+ years of finance/accounting experience preferred
Working towards a professional accounting designation (CPA/CA/CGA/CMA)
Proficiency in MS Excel and other MS office tools (e.g. Word and PowerPoint to develop reports, documents and presentations)
Experience with PowerBi is an asset
Experience with financial reporting tool Workiva would be an asset
Good understanding of asset management industry
Comprehensive knowledge of internal reporting requirements, sound business practices and controls and accounting/audit principles which apply to the asset management industry and financial services in general
Experience in new system implementation is desirable
Strong interaction and communication skills
Ability to handle tight monthly deadlines and to deliver high quality work
Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to work with complex financial issues and concepts
