WATER TREATMENT PLANT- OUT OF SCOPE – FULL TIME POSITION

WATER TREATMENT PLANT SUPERVISOR

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Schedules work for all water treatment plant operators, approves vacations and monitors staff operation and
maintenance of plants, reservoirs, booster station and water tower for adherence to departmental procedures and safety
regulations.

  • Responsible for operation and maintenance of the water treatment plants, reservoirs, booster station and water tower to
ensure the Permit to Operate Waterworks, Environmental Management and Protection Act, and Water and Sewage
Works Regulations with regards to Water Treatment and water storage and pumping (pumping stations, reservoirs and
system pressures) are followed.

  • Responsible for the maintenance of records as required to ensure the Permit to Operate Waterworks, Environmental
Management and Protection Act, and Water and Sewage Works Regulations with regards to Water Treatment and water
storage and pumping (pumping stations, reservoirs and system pressures) are followed.

  • Hires, trains, motivates, evaluates, disciplines and directs the work of division staff and other staff, initiates and
coordinates with the Human Resources office regarding various Human Resources actions such as recruitment,
advancement, discipline and discharge; manages and evaluates employee performance; delivers professional training
and seminars to staff to assure desired work quality, efficiency and effectiveness

  • Assist in asset management duties which includes all aspects in the administrative, financial, capital and operations of
the City’s Water Treatment Plants.

  • Assists the Director of Utility Services and Environmental Manager in decision making process with equipment
replacement, retirement and acquisition as well as reporting on operational condition of existing equipment.

  • Prepares and completes all work orders relating to equipment servicing/purchasing.
  • Responsible for inventory control in relation to preventative maintenance and equipment parts and materials.
  • Maintains comprehensive records for each item of equipment with respect to down time, mechanical malfunctions and
repairs necessary.

  • Liaises with external parties, if required for the repair and maintenance of equipment. Ensures all external parties follow
the Permit to Operate, and applicable City policies and regulations.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum Water Treatment Class III or actively progressing towards.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field is required or equivalent of education and experience deemed necessary.
  • Must have 3-5 years’ supervisory experience.
  • Current First Aid, WHMIS, Confined Space, Fall Protection, H2S Alive and several other industry related courses.
  • A good understand with computers software programs including MS-Office (Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and
Word).

  • Experience with SCADA.
  • Valid Driver’s License and a Satisfactory Drivers Abstract and current Criminal Record check.
