What you will be doing
Reporting to the Director of Customs, the Customs Broker is responsible for ensuring the smooth clearance of our clients’ goods through Canadian customs. You will act as a liaison between importers/exporters and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), ensuring compliance with all federal and regional regulations.
You will be contributing to that vision by…
· Prepare and process import/export documents and other forms on behalf of clients according to customs regulations, laws, and procedures.
· Arrange for payment of duties, taxes, storage, and transportation of imported goods and bonds to cover duty goods.
· Quote duty and tax rates on commodities for clients and update client profiles with proper HS codes, tariff treatments, change of address, and vendor information.
· Ensure entries are done in a timely manner to avoid storage and delays to customers.
· Closing of entries within required timeframe to avoid penalties.
· Answer customer queries about the status of shipments.
· Communicate with agents on customs issues to resolve problems with shipments.
· Support duty drawback processes and Canadian Duty Deferral program compliance.
· After hours support for team members as needed.
What skills & experience you will bring to us
· 1 – 2 years of experience in a Customs support role
· Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) a strong asset
· Strong knowledge of global supply chain and logistics process
· Exceptional written and oral communication skills with a focus on relationship building
· Mathematical and Financial Skills: Ability to work with numbers, spreadsheets, financial documents, and data entry software
· Strong attention to detail required for documentation and daily duties
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to thrive in a high pace environment
· Refined problem-solving and negotiating skills
· Proficiency in MS Office, with intermediate Excel skills preferred
· Ability to provide after hours support as needed
