The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), under the direction of the Director of Care, Nurse Manager and Registered Nurse, will be working with and supervising staff in the provision of care in a manner that promotes dignity, compassion and ensures adherence to the residents’ care plans. The RPN is responsible for performing their duties in a safe and professional manner to reflect St. Joseph’s at Flemings Vision, Mission, and Values.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating residents individualized plan of care, in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary care team to help residents attain and maintain the highest level of health possible
- Perform assigned treatments, procedures, and emergency care, including wound care, administering medications, the collection of lab specimens, and provide bedside and personal care
- Participate in Resident Care Conferences as required and contribute to the Resident Care Plan with the resident and/or POA
- Provides effective guidance and supervision of Personal Support Workers (PSW)
- Complete documentation, as required, including professional charting and note taking
- Participate in annual education, required in-services, and adheres to St. Joseph’s at Flemings policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Valid RPN Registration with the Colleges of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Must have comprehensive knowledge of medication administration practices
- Supervisory experience (PSW/Other Staff) and experience in a Long-Term Care setting preferred but not required
- Must be able to work weekends, statutory holidays, and varied shifts.
- Must have excellent written, verbal, and nonverbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Possess strong conflict resolution skills and critical thinking skills. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
