Reporting to the AVP, Financial Operations, this role is responsible for Accounting for Individual Customer (IC). The successful incumbent will lead and mentor four direct reports and provide leadership to a team of approximately 25 including the Individual and IRIS Accounting Teams, and the Quadrus Trust & Settlement Team, who support financial processes and accurate financial reporting for IC.
This is a deadline focused role requiring breadth and depth of knowledge across a variety of accounting and financial processes within IC. The role has responsibility for financial processes and controls supporting accurate financial reporting for Individual Insurance and Wealth accounts, and responsibility for controllership functions for the organization’s mutual fund dealer Quadrus Investment Services Ltd. (QISL). A key component of the role will be to support strategic project work by providing expertise on the accounting related impact of business changes and strategic initiatives.
Monitor and review Individual Insurance and Individual Wealth balance sheet accounts including suspense account monitoring and review
Support timely and accurate quarterly financial reporting processes
Oversee accounting, reconciliations and related financial processes for QISL
Manage, review and approve the preparation and filing of the monthly regulatory financial reporting for the Mutual Fund Dealers Association (MFDA)
Manage the annual audit of Quadrus by our external auditors, including preparation of the audited financial statements and notes, and oversight of supporting documentation provided to the auditors and responding to audit inquiries
Manage the annual MFDA Financial Compliance Audit of Quadrus and address audit findings as needed
Maintain a strong internal control environment ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations, including Internal Controls Over Financial Reporting (ICOFR), and MFDA guidelines
Work closely with various business partners across the organization and provide financial expertise on accounting related processes impacted by business changes and strategic initiatives
Address ad-hoc inquiries relating to accounting processes and/or entries
Support and develop team by providing strong leadership including on-going coaching and performance feedback
Strong financial accountant with experience preparing financial statements
Ability to manage multiple demands and work within strict timeframes/deadlines
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Solid leadership skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Professional accounting designation required (CPA or equivalent)
Knowledge of financial products and processes within IC a significant asset
Positive and professional with an emphasis on collaborative working relationships
