Perkins+Will is looking for a Junior Urban Designer to join the team.

Reporting to the Urban Design lead for the Vancouver studio, this employee will be responsible for designing and coordinating a wide range of urban design and planning projects as part of our growing local practice.

Position Summary:
Provides assistance throughout the planning and design process, including research, analysis, programming, preparation of design documents, presentation materials, reports and participation in public processes and presentations under routine guidance.

Assignments may include built form, streetscape, campus, transit or master planning projects. An understanding of the roles social equity and market forces play in shaping our built environment is essential.

As a Junior Urban Designer with the Perkins+Will team, you will:

Understanding and application of analyses and reports, including conceptual urban design documents and fundamental theories of urban design.
Understands overall urban design concepts, objectives and critical issues and applies knowledge to tasks and assignments.
Understands and responds to the technical implications of urban design decisions.
Facilitates firm and project goals of excellence in design, execution, sustainability and resiliency.

Assists in the preparation of information and drawings for analyses and reports, including policy and conceptual urban design documents.
Assists in developing planning and design sketches, renderings, models and graphics for presentation materials.
Provides planning, design and research support to project team members, which may include computer modeling and rendering.
Compiles data and performs computations related to urban analysis and land use.
Assists in the preparation of public and stakeholder engagement material and participates in public and stakeholder engagement activities.
Adheres to firm and project goals of excellence in design, execution, and social and environmental sustainability.

Assists in preparation of final design documents including guidelines, reports, comprehensive planning documents and final presentation materials.
Assists in the production of amendments and addenda and other project modifications.
Performs routine calculations according to specified standards and proposed development controls.
May assist in conducting project review to determine compatibility with comprehensive plans.

Performs tasks according to the Perkins+Will standards and Project Delivery Manual.
Responsible for the clear and timely communication of information of the project team and to ensure compliance with the project team goals.

To join us, you will have:
Professional Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture or Planning
1 - 3 years' experience
Professional degree in Architecture or Planning
Comprehensive understanding of urban design principles and theory
Associated with project design and execution
Knowledge of GIS, Revit, CAD, 3D computer modeling and graphic design
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Collaborative and professional work ethic
LEED AP or within 6 months of hire


Bachelor or better in Urban Design.


Bachelor or better in Architecture.

Bachelor or better in Urban & Regional Planning.
