Position Summary
A machine shop estimator analyzes engineering drawings, calculates costs for materials, labor, and production time, and prepares accurate quotes for clients. This role involves collaborating with sales and production teams, managing quote queues, and ensuring project specifications and deadlines are met. Key responsibilities also include communicating with customers and potentially proposing design alterations to ensure efficiency.
Day Shift: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Responsibilities

Analyze manufacturing projects to determine material, labor, and production costs.

Prepare and submit detailed quotes and formal price and delivery quotations to customers.

Discuss project specifications, propose design solutions, and communicate capabilities, deadlines, and costs.

Work with sales, production, and engineering teams to ensure estimates are accurate and align with production schedules and capabilities.

Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD files, and other technical documentation.

Obtain quotes from external service providers and subcontractors for materials and processes.

Maintain accurate records of estimates, quotes, and project data.

Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

5+ years experience estimating in a machining environment.

Capable of reading and interpreting drawings, BOMs and model files.

Experience with manual and CNC machining processes.

Knowledge of fabrication, welding, assembly and finishing an asset.

Certificate of qualification, college degree or other training in machining or estimating.

Working knowledge of ERP systems, Excel and Outlook.

Previous aerospace experience preferred.

Previous jobbing shop experience preferred.
