A Die Cast Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient running of the Die Cast department, to produce high quality aluminum castings.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
The specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge and understanding of die casting machines, operations and troubleshooting.
- Responsible for maintaining the safe and continuous production of the Die Cast area while producing quality castings.
- Directs employees and ensures they are knowledgeable with regards to: ‘work instructions, plant safety, quality of parts, and other requirements as laid out in the job books.
- Ensures that all Die Cast Operators and Trim Press Operators are accurately inspecting the parts they are producing, and producing parts of the highest quality.
- Ensure work of the Die Cast Department is completed in an effective and efficient manner.
- Ensure that the required Quality Control checks on each job are done accurately, and that production sheets are being updated hourly by the Trim Press Operators.
- Monitor breaks and work performance of each employee, giving attention where needed.
- Provide direction and instruction to employees in the Die Cast department. Follow and enforce the quality control procedures that deal with casting problems/defects.
- Set-up production board according to priorities.
- Time Sheets: Ensure that all employee time sheets are obtained and correctly filled out (this includes overtime).
- Assist Die Cast Department Supervisor.
- Ensure all departmental personnel have received the required training and skills development to effectively perform their job. Formally evaluate departmental personnel on an annual, semi-annual and ‘as required’ basis.
- Utilize effective leadership and teambuilding techniques to develop a successful department. Motivate members of the department, treat all employees with fairness and consistency, and deal with problems promptly and consistently.
- Understand and comply with the supervisor responsibilities and rights as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OH&S) of Ontario, as well as the Company’s safety rules and procedures.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of Supervisory Experience
- Minimum 5 years of die casting experience at an automotive company
- QS 9000, ISO 14001 experience required
- IATF 16949 Experience an asset
- Excellent oral and written communication skills Detail Oriented with proven time management and organizational skills Strong problem solving, troubleshooting and conflict resolution skills Computer literate Team player - able to work well with others
- Mechanically inclined
- Ability to prioritize and multi task in a fast-paced environment
- Highly organized, and self-motivated
- Proven Leadership / supervisory ability
