The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced leader to join our team as a Total Rewards Leader to focus on the total rewards strategy, design, programs and processes. The individual in this role will be an important member of the Human Resources leadership team. This position will lead the development and administration of a total rewards strategy for Medavie Blue Cross and Medavie Health Services. This position will manage all functions related to the design and implementation of this strategy, including compensation, pension and benefits. This role will be involved in integrated projects in support of the broader Human Resources function and must have proven ability to operate and view issues at a strategic level.

Key Responsibilities

Designs and implements appropriate salary structure, salary administration, short term incentive, executive compensation, and sales compensation program
Designs and builds annual company compensation budget, salary increases, and participates in salary surveys
Designs, recommends, and implements benefit programs
Plans, implements and administers the registered pension programs and Group RRSPs
Develops, implements and monitors the effectiveness of existing total rewards policies, guidelines and procedures
Prepares any relevant reports and documents for senior management and the board
Leads job evaluation program and ensures compliance with employment equity and relevant pay equity legislation
Participates as resource member of the Pension committee
Provides expert advice and consultation on compensation, benefit and pension programs to operating companies for union plans
Reviews the education and communication materials of our compensation, benefit and pension plan programs and their effectiveness, to ensure that our programs are being understood by our employees, leaders and union representatives
Leads, coaches, and develops the total rewards team to deliver and implement programs and processes


Strong understanding of total rewards;
Strong analytical, written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skills;
Organized and detail oriented;
Well-developed interpersonal skills;

Superior interpersonal skills will enable the candidate to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization;
Must be detail oriented, flexible and able to prioritize multiple projects;
Deliver results;
Demonstrate a customer focus through the anticipation of, and response to, internal customer needs and through the development of strong internal customer relationships;
Self-motivated team player with ability to work independently and high energy; and
Bilingualism is considered an asset

Masters or Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field
WorldatWork - Certified Compensation Professional or International Foundation of Employee Benefits Plans - CEBS

10-15 years of HR experience with 5 years compensation, benefits and pension experience
Seasoned HR professional with significant depth of experience in a variety of HR disciplines
Experience in a multi unionized environment would be considered an asset
