Residential Home Builder & Multi-Family Developer

Our client is a respected and growing residential home builder and multi-family developer seeking an experienced Controller to manage the company's accounting and financial operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on CPA who enjoys working independently while partnering closely with ownership, project managers, site supervisors, and financial institutions.
As the Controller, you will be responsible for the full accounting cycle, project cash flow management, financial reporting, and lender relations. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic construction environment and enjoys contributing to both the financial and operational success of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full-cycle accounting function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Develop and maintain project cash flow forecasts for multiple residential and multi-family developments.
- Identify significant transactions and consult with the external accountant before they are recorded.
- Monitor project budgets, costs, and profitability in collaboration with Site Supervisors and project teams.
- Coordinate construction draws, project funding, and financing requirements.
- Act as the primary financial contact for banks, lenders, and financing partners.
- Prepare draw requests, reporting packages, and supporting documentation for lenders.
- Assist ownership with budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and business decision-making.
- Maintain documentation for capital asset purchases, financing arrangements, leases, shareholder transactions, and related-party transactions.
- Develop and monitor internal controls over financial reporting and cash disbursements.
- Prepare GST returns and ensure compliance with applicable tax and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate year-end working papers and liaise with external accountants.
- Maintain strong internal controls and continually improve accounting processes and reporting.
Qualifications
- CPA designation required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within residential construction, home building, real estate development, or a related industry.
- Strong understanding of construction accounting, job costing, project cash flow management, and lender financing.
- Experience working directly with banks and construction lending facilities.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with accounting software.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and comfortable working independently in a hands-on role.

Experience:
