Taxation of compensation and benefits (also known as executive compensation) is a fascinating area that draws upon skills from a number of disciplines. At EY, executive compensation is part of a broad- based service to clients which includes not only tax but also related strategic HR advice.
Types of work you will be doing
Working with companies to design compensation arrangements for senior employees that are aligned with the companies’ goals and priorities
Determining whether compensation arrangements designed by multinational companies work in Canada and if not devising solutions
Advising on the income tax consequences of innovative benefits plans
Analysing the tax treatment of compensation and deferred income arrangements to ensure that they are compliant with applicable law
Advising on the treatment of compensation arrangements in the context of mergers and acquisitions
Monitoring and analyzing legislative and regulatory developments that impact compensation arrangements and benefit plans
Advising on the tax treatment of cross border pension arrangements and non-resident trusts
Assisting clients facing audits by the Canada Revenue Agency and provincial ministries of finance
Assisting clients in obtaining advance income tax rulings from the Canada Revenue Agency on innovative compensation and benefit plans
This role is part of EY’s People Advisory Services, a multi-disciplinary integrated team of lawyers, actuaries, human resource, and tax professionals provide specialized services in the areas of pensions, benefits, HR, tax and compensation.
To qualify for the role you must have
An LL.B, JD or equivalent
Minimum of 1 year post call experience in either taxation law, employment law, or pensions/benefits combined with an interest to specialize in taxation of compensation and benefits
Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to apply these skills to a new environment and new projects
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
