Under the direction of the Infection Prevention and Control (IP&C) Program Director and working within the Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Direction of the WRHA, the Infection Control Professional Clinical Team Leader performs all duties and functions outlined in the Infection Control Professional position description.
In addition to the responsibilities outlined in the Infection Control Professional position description, the Infection Control Professional Clinical Team Leader is also responsible for:
- Overseeing the daily Infection Prevention and Control clinical service delivery and environment/ operational issues in a designated team to ensure optimum patient safety.
- Providing guidance to Infection Prevention and Control staff within the designated team through clinical leadership, mentoring, supervision, education, evaluation and research.
- Contributing to the delivery of quality Infection Prevention and Control services by examining, developing, refining and evaluating the body of knowledge and clinical practices and assisting in program planning, development and evaluation.
- Assisting with performance appraisals and recruitment.
- Liaising with site leadership within the designated site.
- A minimum of four years clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
- Previous work experience in the field of Infection Prevention and Control preferred.
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.
- Completion of an Infection Prevention and Control Course.
- Infection Prevention and Control training.
- Certification in Infection Control from Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Incorporated.
- Current registration or eligibility for registration with CRNM required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of:
- The mission, vision, values, and strategic direction of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA).
- The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA).
- The key roles and duties of the WRHA Infection Prevention and Control Program.
- Infection Prevention and Control competencies.
- Leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.
- Microbiology, infectious disease, epidemiology and biostatistics.
- Organizational, time-management, interpersonal, critical thinking, clinical reasoning, conflict resolution, decision-making, and communication skills.
- The principles of quality improvement, program development, and adult education.
- Demonstrated ability to:
- Function collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Function in a self-directed, independent manner with minimal supervision.
- Prioritize, interpret and respond appropriately to multiple concurrent activities.
- Critically review, evaluate, and where appropriate, apply relevant Infection Prevention.

- Advanced knowledge of current infection prevention and control practices, teaching and learning processes, and other relevant areas such as microbiology, epidemiology and biostatistics.
- Proficiency in computer software applications, including Microsoft Office.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
